he is good if i have his ball. I just want to know i will be able to get him back on a field we have not let him off yet as i dont trust him and there is nowhere around us that is fenced off. Any tips please he is off to puppy class next week so that should help.

1) get a longline and keep it on him, let it trail.

2) don't feed him before you start training, he won't respond to food if he has a full stomach.

3) Get your OH.

Hold the dog. Get your OH to run away, call his name, act silly, to try and attract him. Dogs are nosy. Don't let go until he is BURSTING to get to your OH.
Tonnes of praise when he catches up. Then OH holds him and you attract him.
Great fun and exercise, to boot

He is still very young, don't expect miracles. When he is older and if he is still tricky, at least you can stand on the long line and physically stop him from leaving!
