I am picking my foal up on Saturday, a 6 month old section C. I have a 7.5 ton horsebox which I will be using (unless it sells in the meantime and then I will be borrowing a trailer!)

Am I best to take out all partitions and put down a thick straw bed, or would he be better with a partition to lean on? I'm thinking not as he will be able to fit through the gap at the front.

My last foal was delivered to me so I had no say, she was travelled loose in a stock trailer. She is an ID though, and looked more solid - this little lad is tiny which is making me worry more.

What would you do?

Thanks for any responses :)

I've always travelled my babies loose without a partition. They need to find their balance. I always worry that restricting them or tying them up will cause them to panic and fall over. I give them a bed of straw too.

So far I've had no casualties and I've travelled a Sec A weanling, a cob weanling and a TB yearling this way.

I always take all my partitions out and have a deep straw bed and banks. Definately take the partitions out if there is a gap. Travelling one freshly weaned baby I made my boyfriend sit in the back with her to keep her company and less traumatised!! Maybe not the smartest move but it kept her happier!!

Thanks Vickijay, I would happily sit in the back with him but would rather it was me driving the lorry, as my "spare Driver" goes a bit fast for my liking :p

It's only 1/2 an hour away so I'm sure it will be fine... but you know how little things niggle at you? This is the one that's got me lol
