Best wellies?

I found a pair of Aigle's on Ebay for an absolute steal and I love them. They are second-hand but I think they were a fashion item in their former life as they were very, very clean! I like to think I am giving them a full and happy free-range life with lots of mud and muck :)

Ooo do you have a link by any chance?

No link sorry but the leather lined ones are called chasseur and the neoprene ones are chasseurnord

I think there's also a wool or fur lined version if I remember rightly from the cla game fair but can't think what they are called now. Try Phillip Morris

I always go for cheap & stick nice insoles in. Then I can happily spend all day in the things. My downfall is doing any hedging on farm & getting hawthorn/blackthorn punctures but I don't think the posh ones would cope much better unless you guys can tell me different...

At the moment I have the Hunter neoprene ones - this will be their second winter and they are lasting well - no splits yet but, I only use them for yard work - I don't ride in them like some ladies at my yard. I think the riding encourages the splitting of the rubber. Mine are slight seconds as well - wouldn't pay full price for them :D

Prior to that, I had a pair of neoprene lined Dunlop wellies - they lasted 5 Winters and they only cost me £15 in the sale :)

I think my current wellies are Hoggs and they are fantastic, though I do have especially wide feet (the actual feet, not the calves) and I chose them as I heard they would be suitable. I used to have a pair of Hunters before they changed the manufacturer... I loved them but I wouldn't touch the newer ones with a barge pole. I also had a pair of Joules wellies once and they split very quickly.

I use le chameau, expensive but I get 3 years out of a pair with heavy use. Hunters are now made in China and like joules are sold more as a festival type wellie and not for heavy use. The company that use to make Hunters and sold out to china are called Century and might be worth a look at. I looked at Gum boots at Burghley last year and they looked quite nice and a little cheaper than le chameau.

I bought some Joules wellies last year to wear on my wedding day and then they became wellies for general use. They're starting to split now so I'm looking to buy some new ones. I fancy some neoprene ones but I'm unsure which are the best. Can anyone recommend a brand? I would prefer them to be tight at the top - I've had enough of slopping water down my boot! Thanks :)

Haven't looked at the other comments, but right now I have a pair of Muck Boot Co boots that are FAB. Lasted for a year and still look new (if mucky), whereas my last two pairs of Hunters wore out to either cracking at ankles or soles going smooth in inder a year.

I've got the Muck Boot Chore. They have heavy thick soles so not suitable for riding, but I change into my riding boots anyway. Very durable and coming into their second year. Still comfy and very warm with absolutely no sign of splitting or wearing out.

The neoprene is nice and snug at the top so no spilling water into them or coming off in the mud :) or my bugbear, hay and bedding stuck to your socks lol. We are on clay and our fields get so waterlogged and very thick and muddy, not once did they budge when traversing the bogs last winter! Not very expensive either. About £70 I think.

Le Chameau Vierzonords for me. My current ones are starting to split after 7 years of being worn almost daily in all weathers and I'll be replacing them with another pair. Although the outer rubber is splitting they still don't let any water in.

Getting hay and straw down my wellies is also something to be avoided! Pretty sold of snug neoprene now!

Hoggs of Fife neoprene lined - very comfy and durable, very similar to, but much cheaper than Aigle (tried both on but couldn't justify the price difference).

I could have written this, apart from the bit about being on clay. I've found them great, including on ice so far. I invested in the Chores after sliding under a horse in my old wellies when I was bringing in last year.

Another vote for Aigle Parcours. You can get them with or without neoprene (mine are with) and they're fab having given up on Hunters (last pair lasted 4 months) I tried Ariats (which did a bit better at 8 months) and then the Aigles. We're about to go into our 3rd winter and they're still as good as new. My YO has a pair 8 or 9 years old that are still going strong and she wears them day in day out. They're so comfy and warm too. The only slight problem I have with them is that I have to be careful which socks I wear as if they're too short they end up wriggling down my foot for some reason (no idea why). Longer ones are fine though.

Does anyone else find neoprene boots massively heavier than Hunters? I went for a 2 hour walk in mine last year and was so exhausted I had to get my son to come and pick me up a mile from home!! Are there any that are known to be lighter than the others?

I find them heavier than hunters but not heavier than dunlops. However mine are muck boot tacks, so a more lightweight boot in general than my friends aigles.

Aigles I got a pair off Amazon brand new for £40 they were on special offer and I am hoping they are going to last at least a year. I remember having a pair before as a teenager and they seemed to last a long time so after trying lots of other types of boots including hunters which do not seem to last a winter.

Normal wellies don't seem to last me more than a year - including a pair of muck boots that I got given at xmas from my parents that lasted about 3 months! I do wear them every day so they do get a lot of use and I walk in them a lot too.

Having wasted a fortune on wellies over the years I now have a cheap - only system. I buy cheap wellies from ebay-last pair cost less than ten pounds and lasted months, easy to get on and off and mega comfy. Invested lots of money last year in muck boots which rubbed my heels, were far too hot, and burst after a few months. Cheap n cheerful all the way fro me now!
