My puppy can be a bit fussy about his food. He is on a good quality dry food but I like to add a bit of somthing to liven it up. He should get all the vits ect from the dried, but is there a good quality wet I can add to it? he is outside all day so I dont want want to take him out with out him having eaten!

How about some real meat. Most dog meat is all water.

Try some mince lamb or beef.
Or tripe or some tinned fish.
Or crack an egg over it.

Have you tried also putting some water in with the dry food.

so far i have been using real meat - a bit of chicken. Is it best i carry on with this and try other real meats?

Yes it will be far better for him!

You don't need to cook them. Just make sure they are in small enough pieces for him.

Mice is a good one to start him off on. If he is just a puppy i would say about 2 or 3 tablespoons of mince on his food. Stir it in a bit so he doesn't just pick out the meat!

I get blocks of frozen minced tripe/chicken/beef etc from the feed merchant and they love it, also put a bit of warm water with his biccies as it makes them smell better!

Hi, I wean my puppies on raw minced chicken as this has the protein they need for growth. I also give them goats milk as this is a good means of helping the bones strength whilst keeping weight on them.
Scrambled egg is good for them too as is raw eggs but if your pup is young I'd wait till a bit older as there is still the risk of salmonella.
You can buy bags of raw minced chicken at pets at home or there is a supplier online called Durham Animal Feeds who deliver.
Hope that helps ;)

Its ok as long as your not feeding a whole bunch of meat and bone which you are not going to be doing.

As long as the meat is only about a quarter of the amount of biscuits.

You can cook the meat a little if you prefer but they much prefer it raw!

If your mixing raw food with a supplement go for a mixer not a dog food biscuit as they cannot digest them both at the same time.
Dont bother cooking the food as you take some of the essential vitamins out of the meat, but some people cant feed raw, so its up to your own personal choice. See how your pup goes on it either way. How old is your pup?

I am feeding a complete biscuit, so the meat is more as an incentive than anything else. He does like the biscuits, but seems to get bored before he has finished off the amount he should eat. He is 5 months, a JRTx. I think he would love raw, but I would like to stick to the dry for now! I will try cooking the mince a little. I just do the chick at the mo for a couple of mins in the microwave. He is only about 4kg at the moment, but v active. He did go a bit lean but is looking good now he is having some chicken with the dry as hes eating all the dry now.
thanks for advise! x

If he's bored with his complete and your cooking him some mince or chicken drizzle the juice off the meats onto his dry food. Even when your cooking your own meals dont waste all that delicious dog gravy.

Great advise re the raw, if u want to stick to dry, try adding some tuna (1 tin would ladt a fair few meals if u only add a little in) and use the juice to caot the dry food, or add sunflower oil from the bottle(small slurp) and mix it in to try, don't chop and change food, esp if he maintains his weight well, dont forget dogs do not need alot of food esp if they are not using it as fuel say for (working), lift the food after 10 mins then offer next meal as you would normally, otherwise u could be contributing to making him fussy, also if he is a dog in a single household he has not competition so no need to eat every last morsil.
(jsut another take)

If you go onto a proper raw diet you do not need to supplement and you certainly don't need to feed any of that biscuit at all. A Natural raw diet balanced over a week or so will provide all the quality nutrients a dog needs in their natural form without any need for supplementation. It will also save you money if you chat up the butcher.

I would not risk feeding dog biscuits with raw unless it is a small amount as they are digested at different speeds and you risk impaction and bloat which are not seen with properly fed raw diets.

Ped refused to eat any sort of dog food when he was a pup, despite the breeder supposedly feeding him a complete dry food. I tried softening his food with gravy, mixing in chicken/beef/lamb, and I also tried removing his food after 5 mins when he didn't eat it, but he still wouldn't eat it.

When he was 10wks old I started feeding him raw and he ate everything he was given :). I started with chicken mince, then beef, lamb, rabbit, duck, tuna and pilchards. At the same time I also started feeding him chicken wings from the supermarket as they're a bit smaller and softer than wings from the butcher.

He's now a year old (it's his birthday today :D) and he's still doing really well on the raw diet, although he has a fascination with my friend's dog's multicoloured bakers dry food and steals it at everyone opportunity .
