i bought my appy filly in october and when i bought her she had a panacur 5 day treatment and now i am just wondering whst to worm her? (i know panacur is not really any good) she had egg count and it was high and was wondering what you all use? red worm and tapeworm please xxx thank you :)

Providing she's in good health, upto weight, not in foal! and over 6 and a half months old I would use Equest Pramox, clears encysted redworms and tapes. I use this on all my new horses without a problem.

Before you do anything else I would speak to an SQP at wherever you had the worm count done. With her already having had the Panacur you just need to be careful not to give her too many wormers one on top of the other. That's just my opinion.

I'm a huge fan of Equest, Equitape and Pramox and that is the regime I use with my own horses. It's just the fact that she's a filly so not that old and she's already had one wormer that would make me want to speak to the right people before deciding.

my vet did the worm count although she does have less than what she had when i got her she still has ALOT and she advised worming again asap

there is resistance to panacuar in some areas, there is not point in worming anything with it here, it is a very mild, gentle wormer great for poor horses, but in some areas worms are immune.... ours thrive on it!

The 5 day guard is brilliant as a wormer for horses that you do not know the worming history of as it is gentle and won't lead to a mass evacuation of encysted RW and so possible colic, it is not as effective as the modern wormers though and is usually used a few weeks prior to a 'proper' wormer. You could go with either equest or equimax depending on your preference. I would also recommend speaking to an SQP, they know what they are talking about (well ours do) and can give you some good advice about known local resistance!

I would ask your vet what they recomend as they should know the worm burden and what they are and the best wormer for that ....they should be able to write up a plan for the next 12 monthes for you..
