One of my horses was kicked on the forearm last night by a shod horse. Viewed from the offside of the horse, the wound is in the centre of the forearm, about 4 inches down from the elbow joint.
The kick has left a large swelling and deep cut about 1.25 inches long, which is pouching open and weeping slightly. The vet came out last night but didn't want to staple it closed, dispite me being concerned about it scarring, and told me to keep cold hosing and to give a 20ml penicillin jab daily for the next 4 days.
It's a difficult area to cover, so apart from continuing the cold hosing, is there anything else I can do to minimise the actual wound from scarring?
