Do they really work ?
The horses have decent fly rugs but still getting attacked so wondering if the zebra print does actually confude the critters ?

Yes! I have the Bucas one and it really does work! Just throw the rug on and no need for fly spray(bonus). These rugs defiantly keep the horseflies at bay and my boy is so much happier.

I have a Bucas ride on zebra fly rug and it's fantastic - really helps to keep Breggey fly free. Had to take it off at a dressage competition the other day and wham, as soon as it was off she got zapped by loads of horse flies despite fly spray - finished, jumped off, put the rug back on and flies gone again. Really recommend them.

Just be wary about the fit of the Bucas rug - mine fits terribly on my broad Welsh cob. The breast strap is far too high so it digs into his throat when he's grazing and it is tight on his shoulders (this is for the sweet itch rug rather than the ride-on). I think the flies do stay off it more than with the plain print rugs though.

Yes they do work Pony had a Buccus one and I hated it and sold it as it was more like cow markings than zebra and so many straps and hated the fit of it not worth the money IMO.

I had this last and happy with it https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAXIMA-Z...36:m:mZhF1uilLmtmPxGMRQ1tg1Q&var=452897534445

I have Shires Tempest Zebra rugs on my 2 girls and they do seem to be less troubled than in normal fly rugs. They also fit them very well except that as both of mine have big shoulders I buy bigger rugs than they would normally need.

I have the bucas one. It does work for sure, but it's very hot in this weather and the fit is snug at the shoulder and chest as someone else has said. Nonetheless, sweetitch horse is doing well in it this year.

They have done scientific research - taking grey horses and watching them in the fields, painting them in stripes and watching again - over weeks paint on and off and apparently it really does make a difference. I can't comment on the rugs but the stripes might well be evolved for fly protection!
