Ah just returned from the BETA International Show, the Equine industry's main expo in the UK
So had a lovely day, saw all the people we needed to - Dad spent ages talking to Monty Roberts, who was there to sell a new saddle pad; but they ended up talking about all sorts including fly fishing!

The pad was an interesting memory foam version, with thinner edges to allow the horse to move under the pad.
Matt Ryan was stand hopping and was there to offer advice on Haygain and supastuds.
The new products that stuck out for me were some "interesting" stirrups and leathers by Kvall

They offer a totally flat platform for the rider, but are indeed a bit strange in appearance. My pondering for the day is why do riders use stirrups which generally have smaller bearing surface than your average bicycle pedal, when we are expected to move more than a cyclist?
The idea behind the kvall system is to give you a flat surface to "surf" the movements of the horse.
So in a crazy moment I bought a pair to try, so if I am brave enough to be seen in public, may be coming to a BSJA show near you!
The other product was the Spursuader, a different kind of spur, in the vein of the rollerballs desgined not to mark your horse and to be that spur you can use on all horses without thinking about changing. Currently only legal for US, Candian and FEI competitions, but they are lobbying the bodies for approval in all disciplines.
Not sure whether they are too soft, but I like the idea of any spur that is humane versus the traditional POW variety

So a very interesting day and these are the products that stood out for me (not connected with in any way btw!)
