BETA Report, celeb spotting and the "must have" toys for 2010!

I was there Sunday and was very interested in those stirrups. Poor French guy on the stand struggled with my Lancashire accent but we eventually understood each other. I compete endurance and already use caged stirrups with wide treads. These stirrups are an improvement on those designs - I'm hopefully being sent a pair to trial this season. Not only should they be less fatiguing for the human for those many hours in the saddle (sore ankles, shins and knees are very common as well as numb feet and aching backs) but if his claims are true that the stirrup spreads the weight of the rider over a wider area of the saddle rather than just at the point of the stirrup bars then they should be a huge advantage to the horse as well. Price wise they are similar to the top of the range endurance stirrups already on the market and safety wise he demonstrated the quick release of the back strap and it looked pretty effective

LOL re stirrups!! safety clearly isn't one of their top priorities if they have promotional pics of a guy jumping without a hat on!

Judging from the furore about point2 and whether it is possible that in some circumstances it could do more harm than good I wouldn't have thought BE would be rushing to make those stirrups legal any time soon.

eta - or rather, they will be adding rules that stirrups must only have one securing strap.........

Hmm I thought we had our heels down to make out thighs more open and stop the knees gripping.
I don't know just seems to me that if you have agood enough position you don't need stirrups so why do we need these? Probably I'm stuck in the dark ages.

Wow, i need to get one of those hoofpicks, fancy selling one cyberchick?

We keep having power cuts and its very hard to try and pick feet out with a torch in your mouth

Try riding a 100 mile in a day race ride without stirrups

Painful for you and the horse. I think they'll be great for endurance... I don't compete other horse sports so couldn't say if they'd help for flatwork or jumping.

For safety the rear strap is fitted with a quick release advice - no danger of getting the foot stuck in the stirrup if you come off.
