betnovate - can I get it anywhere without prescription

Mud fever is finally clearing up so I thought I would try and buy some betnovate over the counter unfortunately I need prescription.Is there anything similiar that I can buy without going to vets just to keep in supply for preventative measures.Tube is nearly empty.
 
I dont know yet waiting for bill thought I would have a look round before it runs out completely.The muddy marvel seems to have helped as barrier and its only one leg so Im hoping preventative measures for future.

Muddy Marvel worked a treat on our pony last winter - mud fever was quite bad. This year legs plastered as a preventative measure in it and no mud fever *touches wood*. Betnovate is prescription only for humans too - depending on how much your vet charges it might be cheaper to get a private prescription from your doctor!!

Yes I have seen it at chemist but they wont sell it to me ,need a friend with excema .lol
sudocreme didnt clear it up it needed something stronger to stop infection spreading.
 
Welll, probably shouldn't advocate it but you could scratch yourself in one spot. A lot.

fwiw Betnovate over the counter is VERY weak. I don't even have bad excema, but I still have to get prescription strength.
 
I used something called green oils on mud fever last year for the first time,and i will not be using anything else ever again......brilliant!!!
 
Betnovate is readily available as Hydrocortisone cream. Anybody can buy it. As said though, over-the-counter ones are fairly weak.
 
Its because of the rules that allow the sale of medicines over the counter will not allow above a certain dosage to be made available without prescription. The % of active ingredient is usually at the lowest effective dose when over the counter. Therapeutic doses are always prescription only.
 
Don't think you get betnovate as its a steriod cream but you can get hydrocotisone 1%.Don't tell them its for an animal or they won't sell it to you as not licenced for them nor tell them you will use it on your face cos again they won't sell it to you.found this out when buying certain things for horses was asked to rephrase it or couldn't sell it lol
I've bought it over counter but said had rash on legs(which was true) but didn't have to prove it.
 
Betnovate is not available without prescription as it is classed as a potent steroid...

Hydrocortisone is mild and can be bought

Eumovate is moderately potent, is a step up from HC and can also be bought otc.....

all steroid creams should only be used twice daily for no longer than 2 weeks without review.

This I know, 'tis my job.
