I'm a non driver, just starting work, mondays to fridays, have time in evenings, as well as weekends, lots of love to give, in your opinion would it be better to share or loan a horse? As obviously my parents would not be paying for this, so I am leaning toward sharing. I am sure this is what I want to do, I would love to get back on track with riding and jumping, and I miss horses so much. Riding lessons are a no-no as the only riding school near me was pants.

I have noticed in previous posts that you have a bad back which means you struggle with stable duties so maybe a share would be better as you wouldn't have to be doing the duties everyday, whereas a loan horse you would?

What are your arrangements for getting to and from the yard? How often would go be able to go?

Perhaps you could start with a share (say riding two/three times a week) and then take it from there.

Honestly...it doesn't sound as though you'd be able to get up to the yard often enough to loan (I wouldn't put my horse out on loan unless I knew he was going to be ridden every day and have the loaner doing most of the looking after). As for the share, if it was my horse I would want someone who's completely reliable and TBH they would really need to be a driver so they could always get up there.

Can you guarantee you can always get there if the weather is bad on your share days?

My latest newsflash is that the small yard up the road from my house (non riding school, its a lady's yard, I used to groom/ride her horses) may be able to help me out with this, and she offered me livery for £25 a week inc use of grazing, stabling, hay, etc etc, but it is not a livery yard so I was getting an awesome package, but she said she wanted me to become more experienced before she'd allow me to keep a horse there as the last livery she allowed, the girl before me had a loan pony and was keeping it at her yard, and the girl disappeared and poor pony was left in the fields. So yes, I'd be able to get to this yard, however I am thinking of asking said lady if I could help with her current horse as I don't want to look for a share and have to move the horse to this yard and not be able to pay for it. Back pain is caused by continous strain, mucking out one horse would not be too bad if I was allowed to take my time and have breaks.
