He is in the Norfolk area - and the lanes are very narrow.

I am in Norfolk, could you be a bit more specific please? (Via PM if that helps!)

I'd like to warn my friends and colleagues!

FFS! What is it with some people? Glad to hear that this terrible incident has a good ending for the horse and rider although I cannot imagine for one moment what a terrible ordeal it must have been.

Best wishes,((((((((((( hugs)))))))))) and vibes to Nigel and his rider.

If this idiot is still on the road, which it sounds like he is, you need to contact your local paper. The local press is largely more pro-active in these matters than the police.

Ditto this if poss - would be really good to know if we're in imminent danger! Cheers.

The rider whose horse was injured should also be able to sue him personally (other than the police prosecution) for vets fees and damages to the horse if it is now scared of traffic (perfectly understandable!). I am not a lawyer but I would imagine given that the driver admitted hitting the horse intentionally it should be easy to get some compensation out of him.

Best wishes to the girl involved , i hope she's all right and does'nt loose her nerve, if it had been me i dont think i would want to ride on the road ever again. If it had happened here and he was known i dont think he would be able to walk again let alone drive!!!

Yes! it is quite true that if the police fail to prosecute the driver or once they have prosecuted the driver in the courts that the rider can take a personal civil action against the driver which can include compensation because the horse can no longer be ridden in traffic.

Another Norfolker who would like to know what area - and perhaps what sort of vehicle. This story has realy shocked me, One hopes in a rural area that peole would be a bit more understanding, obvuisly not. Good vibes to Nigel, his rider and all his friends who no doubt will be shaken up too.

I await the outcome with interest. A local rider to me is taking private action against the driver who hit and killed her horse. Will let everyone know the outcome...

Horrid man and it wouldn't surprise me if he gets his come-uppance at some point. He would not have survived an encounter with me if he so much as moved a hair on MY horse's body. I have taken on someone like him before and 'won'.

It will be extremely interesting to see what sentenceing the court gives out, will it be the same as the Rolls Royce driver through the Tesco window, who didn't didn't set out to hurt an individual, but cause damage to Tesco's, I think he got 5 years driving ban and 16 months prison, we will all then expect this case to be dealt with harsher, however looking at some of the pathetic sentences handed out by the wig and gown brigade for far worse crimes, I'm not holding my breath.

i hope the rider does sue him.

poor poor horse.

he should be done for attempted murder, the rider couldve been killed or seriously hurt had the horse landed on them etc.

if when all is done he is still loose o nthe road maybe your local paper as said above, would be interested in his physco behaviour.

First and foremost I hope Nigel and his rider continue to make a good and full recovery.

Also thanks for the warning another Norfolk person and thankfully haven't come across this idiot so far but I shall be warey of red 4x4s for a bit. (Except Husbands one as I know he drives safley

I would doubt he is worth sueing - K reg car and behaves like an idiot. This is why we have things like driving licenses - sociopaths and psychopaths should be weeded out by the licensing process. He has no doubt been involved in a number of similar incidents (similar in terms of his socially unacceptable reactions) and should have been stopped driving a long time ago. The fact that he appears to have no guilt or shame in admitting he hit the horse deliberately (and therefore deliberately endangered human life) indicates that he is what in common parlance is referred to as a nutter, or some kind of psychopath.

The fact the police have not stopped him driving before now does not fill me with hope in the way this will be dealt with. There was a farmer near me who threatened to murder someone and stalked them with threats of violence and who used to lurk behind my house with a shotgun. Allegedly "shooting rabbits". When I wrote to the Police Chief asking that they reconsidered his shotgun license, he wrote back saying they would not be revoking it and that he was not considered not to be a fit and proper person to hold one. I now expect to see news headlines about how he has actually shot someone deliberately!

It will be worth persuing this man for civil compensation, his insurance on the vehicle will cover any claim made against him.

Happily his insurance company will probably be able to recover their costs against him rather than absorbing them too although whether this will be worthwhile remains to be seen.......

Incidentally there would be a legitimate claim for any injury or anxiety that the rider suffers, for vets bills, any out of pocket expenses, diminution in the value of the horse any money the horse's insurance have paid out, and any excess on the horses insurance.

Sadly no compensation for pain and suffering for the horse.

I'd urge the owner/rider to go after him for every penny they can get to try and exact somesort of revenge. Hopefully his insurers will bankrupt him to get their money back too.

He deserves everything he gets!

I know the girl and her friend who were riding out when it happened. The guy lives very locally and we are all very worried about meeting him. He has done similar
before, but never actually hit anyone. He has a hatred for horses.
The horrid thing was the abuse he hurled at the poor girl when her
horse was down. I have heard that Nigel is now home and although
scarred should make a full recovery.

Hasn't the girl got any large father, brother, uncle etc who could have a "quiet" word with him?
If this was my niece, daughter etc on this horse I know I would be livid and would want to have it out with him, Oz

I think the minute he is charged (or not) there should be as much media publicity as possible, particuarly in your local paper, as me like that need a taste of their own medicine. Police will probably do bugger all unfortunatly so the worm needs to be taught a lesson.

I have no time for people like him, evil nasty little scum bag.
