A friend of mine couldn't hunt today cos a spider bit here in bed! No, dont laugh, its true, her leg swelled up and the lump was the size of a 50p. piece- she had antibiotics from the docs, which did sod all and had to go back for different ones, so do not pick up these horrors with your hands!!

GAH!!!!!!:(:( I can't bear spiders and I have read about jumping ones and now ones that bite you in bed :( I'm not going to be able to sleep now :D

Hate to say this but apparently ALL spiders bite... it's just that most of them have such small jaws and teeth they would never penetrate our skin.

Hope your friend recovers quickly.

I have a friend who was bitten by a Spider (Don't ask which type because I can't remember but it was a wild, native species) and she ended up in hospital. She stays at the opposite end of Britain from me though so not sure if she has different species more inclined to bite in Devon. I quite like it a bit colder for just that reason!

God i am so scared of those 8 legged things and they had a big thing about them on autumn watch the other night.
Now i have always told everyone spiders bite amd they all laughed at me now on autumn watch tey did say only 2 types of spiders bite in this country.
Then i come on here and its a thread about spiders that bite people.
I am checking every part of my room tonight and having the guard cat on my bed, dog are useless with spiders

I always think of you as sarah's mum too - sorry!

Haha, a lot of people did. I think you said before! I put a gap between Sarah and sum1 to make it look less like it (even though there is only 0ne M!:D) I have a feeling some do it on purpose :D I don't mind sarahs mum, it could be worse, could be sarahs bum :D

BLAURGH!! It makes my knees itch to think of them *shudder* are they the horrid brown house spider things with BIG POINTY TEETH that are meant to be more scared of us than we are of them? (they should stay out of my house if they're that darned scared).

Bugger!!!

Thought I'd left those behind when I came back to UK to live! I was bitten by a spider ( in bed) as a teenager. By 11am leg was swollen from mid thigh to the side of my knee. Initial thoughts were that the infection had gone into the bone! Leg had to be lanced and I still have the indented scar. :(

monsters they are, even the dog wont touch them anymore and they run like hell!!

How is she so sure it was a spider - did she see it? I once put on a pair of jeans which had one of these in them. I got a nasty nip...

GAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Runs out the room screaming!!!

My mom used to wake with the cousins of those things in her bed. 'Cept they weren't the "relatively" harmless UK version...

Great... can see what I'll be dreaming bout now... :( :( :( (My imagination needs no encouragement at the best of times... :( :(

Treat yourselves to a nice holiday in Australia. The locals here won't seem quite as bed when you get back! :D

I also got bitten by a spider once (a UK one thankfully) and needed antibioltic cream

What is the bug pictured, one of those on y trainer the other day. I removed it to the street outside. Thought it was ugly not bitey. Dog is useless with anything creepy.

Good grief - I was very reluctant to open this post :(

Despite being a "country" gal - I am bloody terrified of spiders

Thanks to you I will not be sleeping tonight :p

Well doubt it was a scorpian unless I picked it up on the chase. But was horridly bigger than I expected a bug to be and curled its tail at e like that one is!!! URG.

Sounds like a scorpion.
The uk ones are very much smaller than the exotic ones. They are black in colour. They are not poisonous, but can deliver a painful bite app. I have never seen them "in the flesh" here. But saw something on tv a while back and would not have given them a second glance other than the other way! LOL

Now, normally I carefully removes spiders and chuck them in the garden...

But the other night I was sitting on my bedroom floor while tidying and THIS GREAT BIG HAIRY BROWN SPIDER WITH GIANT LEGS RAN AT ME!

I screamed, and hit it with a shoe :o
