I bought a lot of horse things from ebay using PayPal they took the money out of the wrong account (I have two options for funds to be taken from) Although I chose one account, they took it from the other and as a result have been hit with bank charges and returned DDs. I have contacted them, very difficult to get to a real person and costly as it took a long phone call. The outcome is that they won't accept any responsability as they could not have made a mistake!!! I have used paypal regularly for a long time, but not any more. I would advise everyone to check very carefully when paying by paypal in case you get stung like me.
So the bargains I got for my horses have cost me much more in the long run.

My paypal irritates me as I always have to change my funding options everytime. It automatically selects my Debit card (even though I keep asking it not to!) and not my Credit card. So frustrating!

Although I use PayPal now I am very cautious of it; back in 2004 someone set up an account with my bank details and I lost about £500 (how they actually set it up in the first place I dont know, but they obviously didn't do any checks!). PayPal were absolutely useless at resolving it, and it only got sorted once HSBC got involved and sorted it out for me. I tried to set up a PayPal account this year, I couldn't as, get this, my bank details were already registered to another account!!!! I cannot tell you how long I spent on the phone to PayPal arguing with them over it, and thank-god I had kept my bank statements and letters from the bank about the fraud, otherwise I would never have been able to prove to PayPal that I was the legitimate owener of my bank details!!!

PayPal are just con artists dressed up in a nice way...
They are owned by the same people who own Ebay so they dont give a ****!
They can also freeze your account and subject it to investigation at any time they want....they did it to me - after 3 days of constant phone calls and a threatening letter advising them of my intented actions to take the situation further they gave in and released my funds.....
I always tread carefully with Paypal...although after that ^^ incident they seem to have laid off me for now :)

Agree you have to watch them! My sister sold a brand new £300 phone via ebay. Bidder paid by Paypal, sister sent off phone. Few days later, the money was removed from her Paypal account due to a "discrepancy with buyer". Turned out he used a credit card, then called credit card company saying he didn't authorise the payment. They automatically refund him. My sister got his address via Paypal, went to visit him, and it didn't even exsist!!

Paypal/Ebay had nothing more to do with it, and told her basically tough!

Being an ebayer Im obliged to use paypal.I hate their charges.BUT saying that, they have helped me in disputes and got me my money back after I appealed the decision. I had made a reborn doll, the woman damaged the doll, claiming id sent it like that (ha ha) she opened dispute, paypal ruled in her favour,I appealed it ( as she lied, she was the one who damaged the doll ) think cause she had buyers remorse,so I fought back and won and had my money and the badly damaged doll too.
They do tend to charge for recieving money, which I do not think is fair and it also irritates me!!!! They are owned by ebay too!!!

Also be aware that you lose your normal six years to claim if paying by credit card but via Paypal, you only get their sixty days or whatever it is, the credit card company say that they paid paypal and paypal fulfilled their 'service' so theres no claim under consumer credit act from the credit card as they have no detail of the third party paypal then paid.

I bought jump poles and cos of the hefty delivery I naively went for 28 day delivery. By the time the toing and fro-ing with the seller was exhausted, it was one day over the Paypal deadline and the credit card company didnt want to know despite the fact that it was over £100.

And at the time, I had worked for the bank whose credit card company it was for 15 years, still couldnt get them to pay up, tho I admit I didnt take it to a formal challenge. So DONT think you have credit card protection if you pay by paypal as your credit card provider will try to wriggle out of any obligation.

I now will not buy any item over £100 by paypal (under that I wouldnt have the credit card protection so thats always a judgement on seller trust and Im ok with that).

When I had a problem with paypal, and ebay, I emailed every single director- their emails can be found online- and bombarded them incestantly with emails. One finally helped me, and got things sorted for me.:)

I have had the same problem. Paypal took £500 out of my account then I went overdrawn and bank charges etc took about 3 weeks for the money to be paid back into my account.
Was advised by bank to have a credit card linked to paypal not a bank account.

I actually opened up a separate bank account just to use with paypal after hearing some horror stories - all I do when I buy anything is put the right money into the account they take it from - it may seem a bit extreme but that way I can be sure my account will not be 'robbed' by anyone - I discussed with my bank the reason for opening it and they considered it a good idea -
