Have just read on the Racing Post's site in Reports that he has broken down badly and his condition is serious, but connections are hoping that he can be saved for retirement. His racing career is certainly ended. Lets hope he can be saved and recovers to enjoy his retirement

Leading Grand National contender Bewleys Berry has suffered a career-ending tendon injury.

The Howard Johhnson-trained chaser broke both flexor tendons during the Bet356 Gold Cup at Sandown on Saturday (26 April).

Bewleys Berry won four of his 19 starts for owners Graham and Andrea Wylie.

After coming second in Aintree's Becher Chase in November last year, the 10-year-old was well fancied in this year's Grand National but ran out of steam and finished in fifth place.

He is reportedly recovering well at Mr Johnson's yard in County Durham although both his front legs are in casts. He will now be retired as a hack.

Hope his recovery goes well, and that he enjoys the rest of his days hacking out.

Bewley is dead. Had to be destroyed. Johnson offloaded him onto someone and G W didn't pay for any of his further treatment requirements but left it to his new owner to fork out. His tendons were close to recovering but he had other damage which led to his destruction.

When was he put down? No suprises re JHJ but rather surprised at GW.

What were the other injuries that necessitated him being put down just as his tendons were recovering.

I saw the incident at Sandown, so sad, such a lovely horse.

This race was in 2008 which was over 3yrs ago which made me ask for more info, and I think something might have happened since hence the query.
