what are they trying to make it do? It does't look to be tied down nor to have much pressure on it to achieve that movement. I'm totally lost as to the purpose or how they have made it do that.

I have never seen this before. Quite intrigued to know what it's about and how it's trained. I don't want to pre-judge just because it's new to me, even thought it doesn't look very nice at face value and doesn't really seem to be how a horse should move therefore likely damaging to the horse. Going by the comments, this appears to be an impressive demonstration of whatever it is that is being demonstrated!

Tent peggers. It's huge in parts of India especially the Jodhpur region. Warhorse training of Marwari horses, which are highly prized and revered, although you wouldn't think it with what they train them to do. The breed was actually nearly lost due to the British but was revived after Independence.

Just like modern dressage is based on military training, these horses were used against armies mounted on elephants and the movements they trained were extreme 🙁

I don't recommend looking at that person's page.

"Do not press the button."
So obviously I had a look at his page and was introduced to a whole new and wildly imaginative world of horse abuse. Their poor joints.

Mind blowing isn’t it? We’re witnessing horrific abuse at the same time as seeing horses in top condition, outwardly gleaming good health, that are literally worshipped by their owners and trainers.

I thought tent pegging was whipping out tent pegs with a lance at a gallop, where does the horse creeping along on its knees fit in?

Like I said, traditionally these horses were used in war against warriors mounted on elephants. How do you get under an elephant, or low enough to stab one between the toes (tent pegging)? You train them.

No different to the origins of "European" dressage.
