So my old farrier said my horse was doing quite well, wearing down his toes so needed to keep an eye on the flaring at the sides as he had some small cracks appearing, also his bars were really good and strong. When he trimmed last time he trimmed the flares back, and cleaned the frogs up, left the bars as they were.
I am slightly out if his area now so decided to try a new farrier that lots of people at my yard use, and he takes an interest in barefoot. He trimmed all round the foot, hardly touched the frogs - which are a bit tagged at the moment and then cut the bars off...
My initial thoughts were nooooo! Going by what my old farrier did he's done the opposite.
I'm new to not having shoes on my horses so what was right - leaving the bars there or cutting them back? Should I be looking for another person to trim?

It would depend to me what the bars were doing - Ive known my trimmer take them off when they're breaking or folding over.

Scrub his feet and get some pics up, sole front and side (camera on floor for the last two) its alays useful to keep a diary and each horse likes their feet a bit different.

LEaving the frog alone is def correct in most cases, I might trim a flap off if mud is getting stuck underneath but leave alone normally.

When I was using a farrier with mr sensitive tb, he used to trim bars and frogs.
Trimming the bars didn't make him sore but he grew them back in a matter of days.
Trimming the frog did make him sore which is why we ended up swapping to a trimmer.
