Just received my foal's passport today. I went for the British Hanoverian Horse Society because 1) it was the society issuing the covering certificate and 2) I wanted to support a British Studbook....
And to my great upset, I received the passport today with my foal's Hanoverian sire's full pedigree to the 5th generation and... my broodmare's name... no breed, no pedigree, nothing...
Now, my mare is DNA tested ISH in possession of a green passport from the Irish Horse Register with full 5 generation pedigree - and a VERY good one at that...
Why would the BHHS think her pedigree irrelevant??? Is the fact she isn't Hanoverian somehow making her not worth recording? I did not breed her to a Hanoverian stallion to erase the shame of her not being a warmblood... I bred her to him to complement her fabulous frame and movement and jump and presence. She has contributed to who the foal is just as much as the stallion did AND I actually believe that the absence of information about this fantastic mare's pedigree might actually DEVALUE my foal going forward.
My mare's previous filly by a Trakhener stallion was registered with the British Warmblood Society and her passport shows the mare's full pedigree.
I know Sywell on here is involved with the BHHS and I really hope he can convince me that the BHHS is not treating part bred horses as second class citizens...
I spent some time deciding whether "going public" rather than taking this up directly with the studbook was the right thing to do. However, if like me, other people feel that this is completely wrong, then perhaps that would have more weight in the balance.
I'd like to know your thoughts.
