BHS Celebrity Auction

I believe that bids are now being accepted for all lots online.

My husband has donated a bespoke portrait which will be auctioned off. The highest bidder will be able to commission a picture of their own horse (or dog or cat) if they prefer.

LauraBR on here has donated a picture too.

Have a look on the site everyone and have a bid, it is all for a good cause.

I saw the comissioned piece too- and I did think that my mum would LOVE that for Xmas!!

I feel that the Walk on Part in Doc Martin will be very popular too, especially after he has shown himslef to be a great horse-lover!

Definitley for a good cause- keep up the good work BHS!

Yup, the full catalogue is up and running on the auction house website now, you can view all the lots and place bids here- http://www.cheffins.co.uk/news/cele...rse-society-wednesday-13th-octobe-476-fineart

The painting I donated is lot 1! Hope it gets the auction off to a good start!!! Some really fantastic stuff up for grabs, several paintings I would love on my wall- hope it all makes the charity lots of money! :D

LBR I saw your painting at the SEA in London, it is lovely. I also love the painting of the mares/foals (which was also at SEA) - in the BHS magazine it estimates £1800 as the guide price, so don't think I shall be putting it on my wall unfortunately.

It is an amazing list of donations and wonderful of all those who have donated.

Thought I'd bump this up in the hope that a few people have a little bid - it is all in a good cause afterall!

Agreed Katt!

The catalogue is live on the auction house website now....

And a friend of mine has received an invite for the auction- apparently if you want to attend you just need to phone BHS and ask for ticket(s).

I have fallen in love with the Robert Walker showing painting too...I have clearly got expensive taste!!!!!!

Yes it is a lovely painting but I can't help feel it would be best on Robert Walkers wall.

I love the staffie on the beach picture.

Just as a quick reminder the auction is talking place this evening!! You can bid online or over the phone right up to and during the auction.

I believe there are still a few tickets left too so if you are lucky enough to live near Cambridge and fancy a horsey evening then there are contact details re how to get on the guest list on BHS_Lee's thread here- http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=406466

Sadly some of them didn't make what you would have expected at all considering it's for charity, usually people dig a bit deeper if it's for a good cause. (use the link in golden revolutions post)

Indeed Pat, it is a real shame.

Only a few of the art lots actually made anywhere near their true worth and many of them didn't even meet their reserves so remain unsold. Nice to see Katy Sodeau's and Judi Kent Pyrah's paintings do well though, they were among my favourites :)

I managed to buy something last night over the internet - but bid on the wrong lot number - big ooops! Fortunately I like the picture we've won and it was 'nearly' within our budget! OH not impressed:eek::eek:.

Just need to sort out a courier now to collect the picture.

Agreed I thought people would have paid a bit more.

Mark's went for £280, so someone has got themselves a bargain! Wendy Darker's picture went for under the estimate too. I see Sheila Gill's went for a decent amount, but most of the art went for fairly low amounts which is disappointing.

I saw many unsold on the site though.

Oooh which did you get???

Katt - I won lot 3 as I pressed the bid button not the scroll down button on my laptop! Nice picture though so still pleased and it is a good cause.

How do I find out which lots remain unsold? Maybe I will get the lot I wanted after all........just don't tell OH ssssh!

If you click the link above to the catalogue it lists all the sale prices below the lot over on the right. If they didn't sell it says unsold. Might be worth contacting cheffins if the piece you wanted is unsold....

It was crazily expensive, but I am surprised it didn't sell.... it was gorgeous!

I wonder whether Lee will come on to give us a report on the evening.

Did anyone else have a bid? Were you successful?

Did anyone on here go along??

Hi everyone

We have not long got back to the office and are all pretty exhausted but it was a very successful night. Thank you loads to those of you who have supported the auction or put in bids.

We had loads of people there but, even so, some people managed to get some real bargains. Some of the lots didn't sell which was a shame but they will still be sold through other means (we haven't fully decided what the best thing to do is yet) and the money will still all go towards the campaign. Everything attracted bids but the very valuable lots had to have reserves on them for obvious reasons.

On the night we made getting on for £20,000 and by the time the other things are sold we will hopefully be nearing double that. This is BRILLIANT news and we will be able to do so much with that.

If there is anything unsold that you are interested in please do contact either Cheffins or me directly (l.hackett@bhs.org.uk). If you offer enough you can have it!

Also, we have some lots that weren't suitable for the Cheffins market. For example, signed Paul McCartney memorabilia that will be auctioned at Bonhams on December 15th:

https://www.bhs.org.uk/Horse_Care/C...nations/Donations_box/McCartney_Sir_Paul.aspx

There are also various other celebrity things (e.g. from Simon Cowell, Helen Mirren, Twiggy, Zoe Wanamaker etc) that will be auctionned online also in December. Keep your eye out for info!

I'm not very good at doing short posts but finally I want to say a huge thank you to everybody who donated lots. Previously I didn't want to name them in case they didn't want to be "outed" but from reading this thread it seems to be ok, I'd particularly like to thank the HHOers Laura Barber-Riley and Katt's husband Mark Langley - THANK YOU! I Have no idea how to do smileys but if I did there would be some here! I'm not aware of any other donors that are HHOers - if there are, I'm sorry for not naming you too.

Cheers

Lee

Looking through the list, there are not many that didn't sell, but those that didn't are mainly the expensive ones. Us ordinary horsey folk are quite happy to bid a few hundred for a great pic or a novel experience, but I am not likely to shell out in the thousands, as have too many horses to feed!

Perhaps a central London venue would be better to sell those - could you do something at Olympia perhaps?

We used to have silent auctions at our charity ball where people write down what they want to pay, and the next person can outbid them by writing a higher figure. That's easy when you all know each other, as no-one would back out, although not so easy at a big venue perhaps.

But think of all those who have boxes at Olympia - great atmosphere, the festive spirit and some champagne always helps people to part with their money! They usually decorate the walls with gorgeous pictures for sale up there - could they make room for the BHS ones, with an area to place a bid?

Is there a way to auction the rocking horse at the end of the shetland grand national - only those registered to bid could be allowed into the main arena. Nothing like a bit of competition to get the super-rich to part with their dosh :)

Doh, I wish I had been brave enough to bid on a couple of things but I thought things would go for much more so that my bids would be silly (even though they would have been more than the prices they went for) (hasten to add it wouldn't unfortunately have been a bid on Katy Sodeau's painting although I love that and am glad it sold well). If I had had room on my walls would have loved Laura's painting as well.
