BHS exams

Hello,

So Iv take a premature gap year due to college not working out, so applies for another course but doesn't start till next year.

So what to do with all this time off?! I was wondering if it would be worth doing the BHS exams?

Was supposed to be getting my boy ready for dressage but with having no surface in my field and all this rain it's been pretty hard!

So just wondering of they are worth the time/money? What do they entail etc.? Just looking for something productive to do...

If you go on the Bhs website they give a comprehensive syllabus for the exams.

On here you'll get people rate and slate them for different reasons.

Are you waiting to go in to an equine related course? I am generally of the opinion that learning, studying and bettering yourself can only be a good thing. It will also look good on any potential college /job applications when they ask you what you have done with the extra months off, shows commitment, and dedication.

I will say this though they are quite expensive to sit about £140 ish per stage (although that covers the stable and ridden sections) and you may find that you know alot of the content if you have been around horses for a while, it's making sure you know it 'the Bhs way'which is key!

It depends on what you want to do with horses.

In my opinion if you want to work in the horse industry BHS exams are the only way to go. They are recognised world wide and do open doors that may have been shut without them.

Having said that they are expensive if you don't want to pursue a career with horses. I am a BHSAI and it prob cost me close to £1000 to achieve this with exam fees and membership costs etc. it still costs me £££'s to stay on the register as i have yearly membership, have to top up first aid knowledge, child protection and coaching courses but it is worth it in the end.

I say go for it You never know when they might come in handy
