hi
does any one have membership with bhs gold standard?
i understand that costs £59 per year and i was thinking that maybe i will take out my insurance on my mare with out public liability and then take out bhs gold which gives you 10,000,000 public liabity as oposed to the 1 or 2 million that seems to be standard with most insurers?
for some of my quotes it would seem cheaper to do it that way but am i missing something as it seems to good to be true.

this is not because i think my horse is going to cost me a fortune in legal costs btw :)

thanks
natalie

I have BHS gold, all my horses are starting to get on in years now, and of course....what you can then get insured for drastically changes too, well...it used to, not sure now. At least then, I have PL on roads etc etc...

For emergencies, we have a credit card with a VERY large limit, god forbid veterinary treatment should require it!

No you aren't missing anything it is one of the best membership benefits. You also get personal accident cover too.

I'm a member of the Countryside Alliance which also has public liability up to £10,000,000.

Having recently been dumped while on a pleasure ride where my horse cleared off, but fortunately came back, I thought I'd check the cover.

Mine only applies when riding at a non-competitive event. ie, if horse escapes or is let out of the field it isn't covered, neither is it if I'm at a show.

I'm not sure about BHS, but may be worth checking.

BHS gold for me too. When you keep more than one horse individual insurance becomes silly . I keep a credit card for medical emergencies if and when and also put a little aside each month to cover any future costs.

I may be wrong, but the only proviso with BHS gold is they expect you to try and claim off everything else first - your house, your work, the other persons house, work. Thats how they keep the price down?

Ditto this, you will be expected to use other insurance cover first so it's worth checking your household policy, all horses I own are covered on mine for 3rd party with my household insurance.

I cancelled my horse insurance and took out BHS Gold insurance, so at least I have Public Liability insurance. I have the credit card for any large vet bills. Most of vet's visits were under the excess of my horse insurance, and with exclusions I decided to cancel it.
I managed to get Gold membership when it was on offer. :D

I'm a BHS gold member and asked if my Mule was covered to be on a BMS stand at the Malvern Autumn.I was told no something about me being Paid....er,can someone tell me how much,we do it for the Mule ?

World horse welfare also do a champions package or something which I think offers simalar insurance?
I am with WHW for PL, but the first £250, I have to pay, also the "certificate" was actually a leaflet, nothing with my name and theirs or a policy type document, this has been accepted by my yard, but would be useless at a show as they would not know me.
British Driving Society do PL, and it is only £30 per annum

I believe WHW and British Dressage also offer public liability with membership.

I'm a BHS gold member but won't be renewing my membership after their disgraceful sell out to Parelli.

Yes I have an oldie that I do have to lead along a main road sometimes. But I have the gold as if he caused an accident then at least I have Pub liability. Normal horse health insurance is too expensive now and I would have difficulty insuring him. So Gold for me!
