I would like to do my BHS courses, but 2 young boys and lack of a car means i can't get to a collage. I have heard of doing home courses but the one i was looking at didn't make it clear if it lead to a qualification. I can get to a bhs yard to do the practical bit if i need to ( the website said i could go to my nearest yard) i ultimatly want to teach so i need to do them. Also any ideas on cost. Thanks in advance.;)

There's no such thing as a home course. You do not have to take a course to take the BHS stage exams, you just enter an exam whenever and wherever you choose. I self taught all of my care exams, and just had some lessons to do the lunging the BHS way. You should probably go along to a "where to train" centre and have your riding assessed as to what level you are at and how much tuition you need.

The costs for the exams are on the BHS website.

There is such a thing, on the website i was looking at, they send the stuff out to you and then you send it back for marking. Unless this was a totaly different thing.

I *think* it's £140 to take the exams?
You can do it at your nearest yard. Funny, I was just talking to my instructor about taking mine today :)

That would be the horse owners certificate, not the BHS stage exams to get your instructor qualifications (is BHSAI). The Stage Exams are purely examined on the day.

As an AI I run the horse owners courses and yes I could see how they could be done distance learning as it's just a syllabus and written paper set by an instructor. But it's not a qualification that you can "do" anything with.
