BHS launches 'Hit the Brakes, not my horse Poster for the back of buses

I also agree, that the "we don't dent, we die" slogan is far better.

Let's all get posters made up for our trailers / horseboxes! Wouldn't be as effective with "horse owner stigma" though :(.

I just wish the arrogance that some people have towards horseriders could be forgotten in favour of actually recognising how terrible the potential consequences of that arrogance are. I can't imagine any driver would actually choose to kill a horse and their rider. We are all people that drink in the same pubs as them at the end of the day. :o

I too apsolutly loath the "my horse " part of this slogan it just reeks of horsey people that expect the whole world to stop because they are riding I think we don't dent we die is much better .
I think this campaign is guarrenteed to be put people backs up it does mine and I ride.
Although it won't matter much round here as buses are a rarity now .

Ironically my friend was nearly involved in an incident last week with my horse and a bus. The bus driver drove too close behind my friend, Big Ears didn't react well and despite my friend making hand gestures at the driver to stay back (while Big Ears panicked and spun), all the driver did was continue to drive close behind them.

It's not just speed that's an issue, it is (as others have mentioned on here) people's lack of knowledge on how to pass horses and riders.

Part of my theory test, from what I vaguely recall, was on passing horses but I can't for the life of me remember how much detail it went into. I just remember being grateful that it was something I knew inside out that had come up!

I hope your friend reported this, generally the bus companies are very good at tackling drivers with issues like this, whether it's through ignorance or arrogance/aggression

Given the choice, I would steer clear of the roads, but I don't have a choice at the moment.

The other day this stupid girl came flying towards us and despite a polite hand signal from my friend to ask her to slow down, she didn't lift off at all, and as she went past she had this disgusting "you can't tell me what to do" snide grin on her face. Total disregard and deliberate arrogance.

I just wished that I could have had a quiet word with her to spell out exactly what the cost of her out and out childishness could have been, and seen if she thought she would still be smirking if a horse and rider were dead in the middle of the road, her car was written off, and she ended up missing Eastenders.

Actually I wanted to smash her disgusting face in, and that is quite something coming from this completely unviolent person. Oop did I say that out loud? :o

Just for the record, I am one of the most polite horse riders I know. I never have two hands on the reins as am far too busy thanking everyone that does slow down!!

I don't think she did :( she took my mare out the following day though and a bus passed wide and slow and Big Ears never batted an eyelid, so it goes to show it's the manner in which people drive past that is very often the issue.

Can i also ask as it only occured to me today, that drivers also need teaching about how to drive past horses and it is up to horse riders to do the teaching. If some riders because their horse is safe in traffic just wave motorists past, how can they assume that another horse they come across is any different, we should stick to the thanks for slowing down and leave it at that. We should only wave past on a blind bend. Thanks for reading.
