I have it in my head that being a member of the BHS entitles you to free public liability insurance, is that right? Can anyone else shed some light on this as my brain is a bit fudgey today! TIA

Yes as long as you don't have cover elsewhere

It covers the horses you own for more than you tend to get on an equine policy. I cant remember the value of the top of my head

They cover you exactly the same as any liability insurance and it covers you for any horse and also covers your horses if somebody else is riding. It is pretty comprehensive and value up to 20 million which is higher than most. It is the same as any of the insurance offered by the disciplins in that it is insurance of last resort!

You only get the insurance cover if you are a BHS Gold member. It is third party public liability cover to the value of £10,000,000 (Ten Million pounds). This is the amount recommended as the result of a recent court case. Most policies do not cover to this level so check your policy as you do need this level of cover as this recent court case demonstrated.

Following with interest as i want to apply for permit to ride some National Trust land near to me. There's an annual cost for the permit, but they also need me to prove I have £2million pounds worth of liability insurance (which i don't), so thinking I might join the BHS as a gold member to get this as that is a cheaper option than boosting me horse insurance to provide the level of cover.
