So, i have noticed a trend whenever there is an issue, either legal-wise or insurance-wise, a number of posters recommend BHS gold membership. I admit, i know nothing really of the BHS apart from they do have a helpline you can call for a multitude of things and offer riders insurance.

I am after riders insurance, so is the BHS the way to go? Or are there better companies out there?

I am aware of this Goldenstar, thank you for your contribution. I never stated the BHS was a company, more rather, i was talking of other insurance companies that offer the same service. I am asking for peoples personal opinions. If you have nother of value to add, might i suggest you refrain from commenting.

The BHS is a charity which deals with horse welfare, bridleways, road safety education and exams.
Each county has a local area group with volunteers who give up their free time to do much good work on behalf of horse riders and horses.
You can join the BHS as a gold member and get use of a free legal help line and also third party public liability insurance. By joining you becoming a member of the BHS. The more members they have the more they are listened to by national and local government.
Check it out www.bhs.org.uk

You did actually, if you read the wording of your OP, so IMO that was somewhat unnecessarily rude.

What BHS offers is 3rd party insurance, they will not cover the rider for injury etc.

FWIW worth I think your thread title is unnecessary contentious I have never seen any hype on hho about the BHS it's a charity that I have been invovled with as a member and volunteer since I was a teenager .
I genuinely meanlt that google them and learn about their work then compare them and the insurance cover they offer with the profit making companies that sell insurance.

The Gold Mambership has been invaluable. I highly recommend. They do good work and were very quick to help me.

wow this was merely an innocent thread as i am starting to research riders insurance :S

Thank you to those who have pm'ed and commented....ill remember nxt time i need advice on anything horse...just google!

Maybe investigate "rider support" and not just insurance!

As Peter Natt said the BHS offer so much more. Many people don't seem to apprecaite or understand how important they are to all horse riders/owners/businesses. Of course they're not perfect but the horse world would be a much sorrier place without them.

But yes, as part of Gold mebership they offer public liability insurance. I also believe that discounts are available on other types of insurance if you're a member.

Hope this helps.
