hey all, i'm new to this!!!

i was woundering has anyone recentally done the riding and road safety exam as i am doing it in 4 weeks time!

can you tell me what its like? is it hard? <font color="red"> </font>

I never got that far!! Are you in college/ doing an NVQ?? I aimed to put myself through my BHS exams, did the stage one but found it impossable to get on a RRS course without be somehow involved with a college or uni. I gave up!
 
Haven't done it recently, has it changed then ?
When I did mine (6 years ago) it was common sense really, although we did have one girl who failed the multiple choice bit and she had a driving license too!
Try and have fun, its not that hard as I remember!
 
Did it about 6 years ago and I don't think it's changed much since then. You watch a video. Then there's a multiple choice written paper and you have to get quite a high mark 80% or something. If you pass that, you move on to a simulated road test. My yard had set up a road layout in a flat field. Junctions, turns, zebra crossing etc marked out. You have to ride it as if it were a real road and there will be occasional hazards like a pushchair or someone with an umbrella. I had to dismount and get on the wrong side which was nearly my undoing but not sure if they still do that. You have to have the proper gear eg hat, footwear, hi viz stuff and white gloves. If you pass the simulated part, they allow you onto a real road and you pretty much repeat the exercise only for real. If you pass that bit you can tear up your L plates! As people have already said, it's mostly common sense. I passed so it can't be too hard! Good luck.
 
It's just like box of frogs says, if you dnt pass one part you cant move on to the part. Tip keep looking over your shouler!!
I was in a group of about and all but one passed!
 
I did mine this summer and it's fine. A tip is though, before you do ANHYTHING on the horse look over your shoulder!! Theory part is fine, if you drive then the highway code bit will obvioulsy be fine. I did mine with a group of 15 pony clubbers with me and another girl added on, and we all passed

Then if you pass that you go onto the simulator which is easy enough just maneovering around obstacles.
If you pass that then you go onto the road, on mine we had a junction we turned onto a main road then had to turn and then on the way back show a trot, signal back in and then that was it.

I found it easy enough but could be something on the day to mess it up. I had a very fresh horse, There was 4 of us sat on horses waiting to go, and mine was just fly bucking in the waiting area

so I then got told to walk it around and as soon as I turned to come back it started broncing on the spot.

Was quite funny really looking back and thats all I had all the way round my exam, I darent show a trot as the horse would have exploded like a rocket.

I did get commented on how well I controlled the situation

The test has changed in that the simulated road bit is the same all over the country and is done in an enclosed area. There are now a set number of manovers which have to be done and these are marked as in the driving test. Some elements are compulsory and have to be correct in order to pass and others bits are supporting which can add up to help you pass. As a trainer I think the test is slightly more difficult as the examiners have a sheet on which they have to tick all the boxes. Having a quiet horse really helps especially at the traffic lights which WILL be on red for ages!! Don't forget to look at the road beyond your horse when you look over your shoulder to check the traffic situation. Good luck
