Hello,

Currently my horse is un-insured as he's out of work. However I think I need some kind of insurance on him incase of something silly happening such as him getting loose from the field onto the road and causing an accident. Will BHS Gold membership cover me for this? Thanks in advance.

When I was looking for 3rd party insurance joining the BHS as a Gold member was cheapest option. It is I think vital to have public liabilty insurance for any horse even if they don't go out. There's been a fatal road accident this week where 2 horses got out/ were let out of their field and a car driver was killed when the horses got onto a road. Doesn't bring anyone back but would help to know someone else could deal with the legalities involved.

Yes it will, I foster a companion pony from a charity and one of their conditions of fostering is that he is insured for public liability - they recommended BHS membership as the best way of doing this.

I have the same level of cover through the WHW; it is slightly cheaper than the BHS if cost is an issue (£52)

It's also worth checking if/what you are covered for on your household policy, as you will be expected to claim on this first.
