I’m going for my bhs ride safe silver challenge award in a couple weeks as a co-requisite for the stage 1. I’ve found so many experience recounts on here for the stage 1 and I found them really helpful, however I have found absolutely nothing on the ride safe and was looking if anyone could give a general idea of how the day goes

also - an extra question, do flared junctions come up? I’ve been searching for days to try and find out what they even are with no luck!

How are they run now then? It sounds very like an exam setup to me, there’s going to be 10 of us doing it together from 9.45 to 1pm so not sure

I'd hazard a guess and say whoever's training people has just made it into a day, rather than doing it indvidually. BHS deffo no longer running Ride Safe days - Covid put paid to that I think.

It'll be fairly relaxed though, just don't signal with your whip in your hand ;)

I did the Ride Safe Award earlier this year. It was half a day. First part was a bit of theory about riding out, highway code etc. answering some of the questions in the book. Then we did a practice session in an arena with poles laid out as "roads" (there was a flared junction set up!). Emergency dismount in the arena.

Then we had to go out and do it on the road after. Instructors watched us on foot, they weren't on horses with us. Practical side including the arena part lasted maybe an hour and a half-ish.

Then questions and sign off, certificate etc. at the end. It wasn't an exam set up, very informal really.

Hope that helps!

Whoops! I do that all the time! Especially when it's a bit gloomy and I'm using my LED whip.
