Hello! Has anyone recently done their BHS stage 2 ride?
I am due to take my stage 2 ride (just the flat) in a couple of weeks and wondered if anyone could give me any hints/tips/inside information for the day?!
Did you have to do your own girth and stirrups? What whip did you take for the flat? How easy/hard did you find it? Did you walk the horse back to the stable still being assessed?
Thankyou!!

It's a long time since I did mine but you would definitely have to do your own girths and stirrups - I would never ride an unknown horse without doing so!

Good luck for the exam.

In order of your questions

- Yes you absolutely have to do your own girth and stirrups (you should be checking quality of tack as part of the mounting process, and yes assessors will be watching)
- Schooling whip for flat
- No to walking horses back to stables - the centre staff do that.

You'll be 'collected' from whereever you're waiting, and taken to the arena, where the asssesors will then assign you your horse.

I loved my Stage 2, seems eons ago! I strangely relaxed after someone was asked to leave. Best of luck!

As teapot says. Its a long time since I did mine but I definitely had to do own stirrups etc, I had a schooling whip and the centre staff bring the horses in and take them away again.

I loved doing my stage 2, weirdly. It was such a fun day.
I had a fire cracker of a pony for my first course- a real pocket rocket that takes you into the jumps at speed, which is what I grew up on and how I ride best. The examiners actually came over later to give me a commendation for that round and said it was the best they had ever seen that particular pony be ridden. It was just fluke really that I happened to end up on a pony that is completely my type. My second ride for jumping was far more leg on, however!
