BHS Stages/Wannabe Instructors - Rant warning.

Off out in a minute- but just wanted to say- that a qualification for anythin (including riding) is not the be all and end all- there are some horrific qualified instructors and some excellent non qualified- same with educational teachers.
as a by the by- i charge less for lesson because im not qualified so I charge 'unqualified' rates.

One of the best instructors I know never got past her 2nd BHS stage

I don't want to scare you, but I think you'll be hearing from a few rhinos' lawyers regarding your defamatory comment.

I'm a bit on the fence with this tbh. I know that pieces of paper are not the be-all and end-all, but I think the committment required to attain the qualification demonstrates a level of desire to do the best job possible...... I also think horses are life-long learning, and a good instructor needs a healthy dose of common sense as well as compassion added to sound knowledge.

I don't necessarily believe that an instructor has to ride better than the pupil though. If he/she can see what is wrong and teach the pupil how to put it right, what difference does it make if the instructor can't actually do it? If that was so important who would coach the top riders in the country?

Issues like first aid, child protection and insurance are very important for both the instructor and the pupils.......
