Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone has taken part in this TREC comp before and if so what's it like?
There's a comp near me in December and think i'm going to give it a go

yes i have :-) i really enjoyed it, you have to ride through a number of diferent obsticles, walk over wooden bridge, open and close gate, dismount, leave your horse inside circle and hopefully he will stand still while they count to 10 i think it is..:-)
Its a good idea to know exactly where your going and what it expected at each obsticle they are normally on a board somewhere at the event, i didnt know that when i went to my first one and still managed to finish 2nd :-)
Its good fun.... enjoy x

I think i'm going to go for it! Sounds like great fun especially because you canleave out anything you don't fancy doing. There is an in hand class before the newcomers so thought i'd do that first and test the water!

they're good to do as a first intro to trec. I've done 3 - loved the first two, then did a full trec in the summer, then went back to an indoor and was bored witless. Roll on next year's full trec season ;) But defo recommend you do an indoor first. Enjoy...

go for it!
I did my first one at Bicton in feb 2010 and was hooked.
it's fun, but can be as competitivie as you like.
:-)

They're brilliant fun and suit almost any horse. At all the events I've been to everyone was really friendly and helpful. And so long as you tell the judge beforehand, there's even the option to miss out an obstacle you really don't fancy, e.g. the jump for non-jumpers.

My top tip would be impulsion - I've seen countless riders do a lovely steady round and then get a refusal at the jump because they crept up to it.

Oh and if you've had a few goes and are getting halfway decent marks, watch out for the class sizes. I won a Newcommers class with only six in it last year (on the same marks we'd been getting previously which scraped 6th and 7th places), so now we're out of Newcomers and will have to do the Open (assuming horsey comes sound) with the proper Trec lot and a jump of 2ft6ish :(
