Hi all,

I sadly lost my pony back in July. He’s insured by E&L/ Emporium.

I’ve provided everything, but as he was purchased by my parents over 20 years ago we couldn’t locate the purchase receipt. Despite supplying passport, vet docs and a letter from my parents saying they were the previous owners who signed him over to me when I was an adult the insurance are saying for the claim to be paid I need to seek a valuation from a registered BHS representative (details below). They sent me a link to the BHS site and I have contacted near 100 people on the list all who either haven’t responded or have no idea what the hell I’m talking about/ haven’t done this before and aren’t willing to do it now.

The insurance just keep saying other people have had success but can’t recommend anyone other than saying keep trying through the 1700 names on the list till I find someone.

Has anyone here had this issue? Anyone used someone they could recommend? Any advice?

It’s deeply distressing to still be going through this so many months later and having to re explain the circumstances.

I need the following:

If a purchase receipt is not available, please provide a valuation from a BHS registered breeder or trainer detailing the following:-

• Name and address of the valuer

• Name of horse

• Valuation of horse
• Date of valuation

• Endorsing signature

• Professional title

Any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks in advance

First, let me say that I am really sorry that you lost your pony. It's always hard to lose an old friend. I have sadly had experience of claiming for the loss of a horse on insurance, however she was 13 and I had only owned her for 5 years so had sufficient paperwork. In your case though, I am assuming your pony was quite aged if your parents had bought him more than 20 years ago. I am sure he was worth a lot to you, but realistically, I am not sure he would have had much monetary value on the open market. I don't want to come across as sounding harsh, but I think in your situation, I would leave it as it is obviously causing you distress to keep repeating yourself, and just enjoy all the happy memories you have of him.

Edited to add..... 5 weeks after I lost my mare mentioned above, I lost my 28 year old pony. I didn't even consider claiming anything for him, because I didn't deem him to have any financial value, even though he was dearly loved and is still much missed.
