Hi all,
I am planning on becoming a horse riding instructor and debating on which route to take either the ABRS or BHS Route. I like the idea of ABRS since I have heard they're more relaxed and BHS is more of a "Do it our way or fail" but I know that BHS is more recongised.

I'm just unsure which one do to or if it is worth doing a mix. Please let me know thank you ?

If you were to work freelance, the BHS has the advantage of name recognition. If you are thinking of working in a riding school, I would ask around, make enquiries to see what qualifications riding schools prefer their instructors to have.

The two are very different. ABRS is purely coaching, think along the old UKCC lines. BHS produces all rounders, and the new pathways are a lot more modern and better in approach than people both in person and on here will lead you to believe (speaking from recent experience at all levels of their exam pathway).

Employment wise - I've never seen anyone list the ABRS coaching awards on their CVs, and BHS quals will tend to look good, both from an employer's view, and a client's view of you regarding CPD.

BHS is a bit of a joke internationally.

I think it depends where. There's not much else, and they have had a total revamp. Even in the last 20 years there wasn't a "BHS way", things had to be safe and practical and assessor's training instilled that into them. UKCC can be very hit or miss, I know someone who managed to get a generic UKCC2 and by their own admission isn't confident to teach canter in lessons at least an AI/stage 3 coach can do that. I also did what was Equestrian Federation of Ireland now HSI but it was very much a competition orientated exam so it depends what you want to coach and at what level.
