Lou and I had our restricted elementary regional yesterday at Patchetts. Forgot my nerves as soon as I got in the saddle and he warmed up well, he was such a good boy in the test.
Unfortunately our score was 61.something% so pretty gutted, the first two judges gave us a really good score but the third judge hated it and her mark was so low it really dragged our score down. I feel a bit cheated for Lou as he tried his little heart out but had lots of friends and family there which was really nice and until the score went up it was a great day!

I'll hopefully be able to get to Patchetts tonight to collect my score sheet so can see what they did/didn't like.
Hope everyone else has had a good weekend competing x

Thats a shame hun, but its all good experience

And you've still got the hope of a wildcard for the elementary petplan am i right in thinking? Or have you qualified for the elementary petplan? x

Thanks xx Yeah good experience and I was really pleased with Lou so that's the main thing I guess. We came 2nd at the area festivals but the class was split so we haven't qualified but maybe we'll get lucky with a wild card. You're going with Arch aren't you?

when i did the elementary petplan at wellington on Archie one judge gave me 67% (i wouldve come 2nd) and the other gave me 63%, which was about a 16mark difference! Pulled my mark right down and i ended up in 8th place

It does make you wonder doesn't it! At the Areas I was judged really well, both judges gave me the same score! yesterday the third judge scored me 12 marks lower than one judge and 10 marks lower than another. All I can do is take it on the chin and put it down to experience but really interested to see the comments from her!

Yes, its interesting to find out why.

I actually spoke to the judge who marked me lower afterwards and she told me i had ridden inaccurately which is why i lost marks! Im so careful to ride accurately as its the place where you can pick up marks even if the movements arent perfect. We had it on video aswell, but theres nothing you can do. She was very nice to me though and i spoke to her for ages afterwards.

Ah what a shame. It is really deflating when you think you have done a good test and then you look at the board and feel really cheated.
What some judges like some others dont, my boy is an irish Draught and whilst some judges love heavier set horses, some just prefer the lighter weight types. It just totally depends on who you get on the day.

OH POO!!! I will pm you...but if you makes you feel better at the Summer Regionals two judges put my first, and the other one about 10th!!!!!!!Plus at the Winter Nationals when I did prelim 2 Judges gave me the samish score (only .something difference) and the other Judge gave me 30 Points difference!!!!!!!Yup, just take it as a learning thing!

What a shame, did that judge mark everyone low or did she place everyone differently. Some judges mark everyone about the same ,mostly 6's and 7's but get them in about the right order then you get one judge who gives the ones they like really high scores and the ones they don't like really low scores ,so their score it really the only one that works out to count. We had that at a regional last year/We just have to take it and try again but it is upsetting if you don't get even marking.

Oh bad luck.....

That's rotten when that happens particularly when you've felt that it's gone well.
It does happen quite often though, as the others have said and when I think to myself 'If I'd had Judge A or B, I'd have been 1st, 2nd or whatever', I think again and say to myself ' Well, it could have been worse, I could have had just the mean judge and I'd have been a lot worse off'!

Fingers crossed for your wildcard.

Hm, good point, I'm going to Patchetts this evening so will have a look at how she scored other people. Lou often seems to be the sort of horse that judges either like or they don't, I think because he's not a typical dressage wb.

Yep that's how I'm looking at it, would have been worse if 2 judges hated it and only one liked it!
