I'm currently being charged £30 for a big bale which is 'light' i.e. sections are very loose and the farmer wants to up it to £38, plus I have to collect it - round trip of an hour. I use approximately 500 big bales per year. Last year it started off at £20 then crept up to £30 per bale by November but the bales were a fair bit heavier. Does anyone know of any reliable suppliers in the Reading area who could maybe better this price? I know that hay in the central south is meant to be in short supply and I guess prices will be up a bit but I think that going from £20 to £38 per bale is a bit much or is £38 per bale a fair price this year?

Think you will be struggling. I am in the Reading area and last paid £33.00 for large bale, have also been quoted £38.00 per bale even in bulk. If you have found some and can store it I would get it even if you do have to pick it up.

Hi, thats not a bad price, we just got good quality hay for £30 a large bale, which is ment to be equivilent to 15 /17 bales! they had to give it to us at that price cos they made a big mistake with our last delivery, they have now put it up to £45 a bale!
