My regular supplier of hay has phoned me to say that they can't do my order for hay in small bales and can only do it in large ones. I have just been to see them and they reckon they are the same as 18 bales each[hard to believe] but they will weigh them. I think it is going to be so difficult to soak my hay etc but as they have only just told me it is going to be hard to get some really good hay.
Also one of my horses coughs on haylage so can you soak it if I can't get anything else?

Sure- treat it exactly the same as small bale hay. It's just a bit more messy to deal with. Get them to leave space around each bale so you can walk around it to unwind the hay!

I have bales that are the equivalent of 12 bales approx and tbh I don't think I would go back to small bales. I have to get hubby to move them for me but otherwise treat them the same.

If it's big square bales then normally it falls into slices just like the small bales do - but bigger slices! I've used them in the past, and found them quite easy to deal with, as long as you have a bit of space to get the hay off. I've used round bales and put it in nets to soak as well, it was a bit more messy, but not a huge problem.

I prefer the large bales of hay for mine over the smaller bales now. I use the large round bales but you will find that the large heston bales will flake off into sections just as easily as the small bales of hay.

I have a a couple of 'big bale' hay bales. Though I was told 14 bales? It is a bit like haylage and comes apart in big sections. Easy to soak in a net but as mentioned before if you are not stuck for for room. Hay is becoming a bit of a nightmare this year.

I've just had some large bales delivered but they are a bit hot in the middle so can anyone give me some advice whether I can feed this or not. Thx
