Hi we have recently invested in some big bale nets to try and slow the horses down eating the haylage out in the field and to try and have less mess/waste.

How do you remove the netting around the bale so that you don't leave it in with the net, the bale doesn't collapse and you can get it into the ring feeder (if that all makes sense?)

I think I understand what you're asking............ I place the bale down on its end, cut the plastic wrap off, unwrap the netting til the last ful wrap, throw the large trickle net over, pull the rest of the bale netting off, put the metal feeder round, fasten the trickle net down to the feeder with bungee's.

There’s a knack to unwinding the string not quite all the way, so you can just pull the last bit off when the net is on. My friend used to just take off a couple of layers and leave that loose in the feeder.

I take the netting completely off, throw the net over and pull it all the way down, flip the bale onto its other end, pull the rope tight and tie it, roll the bale to where its going and flip it so the knot is on the bottom.

When we had rounds at the RDA, this is what we did too.

The bales are rolled with the net on to where you want them to be.
Large rounds are usually fairly tightly wrapped but if not put the haynet over and wiggle down like putting on tights in reverse. Once its on flip the bale over, and take of the net if its still on, and tie the rope at the top, I weave mine through the haynet to keep the rope in side the bale.
Then put the metal ring around.

I invested in the new version, my old one which must be over fifteen years old does not fit 5ft rounds, like Cinderella, it fits! Which is saving a lot of waste hay, and its very well made.

I roll mine to the edge of the feeder, cut the netting across pretty high up, peelin back to the ground on both sides, put the net on and pull to the floor, took in on the feeder side, roll the bale in the rest of the way in, remove the netting and then pull the cord tight like a normal hay net. A bit might unfold a little as it's rolled the rest of the way in but that can bit stuffed back into the net before the cord is closed up.
