I have owned my pony an companion for 3 yrs now the last year has been up and down with my own health not his but his wasit line has suffered (too fat)!!

I am now faced with the problem as i wont be able to ride for considerabel amount of time yet *sobs* so i have 2 choices:

1. Loan him out to some lovely person and hope i can find somewhere for my companion to go!!!

2. i sell up both and hope that they dont get passed around again or end up with terrible owners

What would you do knowing that YOUR riding future wasnt certain????

I'm sure there's plenty of lovely people out there looking to loan/share a horse/pony (i'm one of them but unfortunately not near you). that way when you are feeling well you could still go and see him and check up on things.
i really feel for you and i hope you find a solution.

I have been ill for 4 years with ME and sometimes my gelding doesn't get ridden at all. But because I wouldn't go out if they were sold or loaned out my mom lets me keep them as then I am out at least 2 times a day to go say hi and groom and possibly ride if I feel up to it.

Horses aren't just about riding! I'm sure they wouldn't mind you giving them a year off (or longer) or someone part loaning them or something.

i suppose it depends on what kind of arrangement you make with the loaner. perhaps just sit down and write down a few ideas of what kind of thing would suit you.

you could post a "draft" version, see what people make of it.

like square said, you can still go up and groom him etc. and ride when you feel up to it. with the right person loaning him his potential will hopefully be achieved.

'Blaze is a 14.2hh 11yr old Irish Cob Gelding who is willing to please his rider. He has XC schooled and thoroughly enjoyed it, SJ up to 3ft tracks and done Dressage with previous owner. He hacks out in company or alone but he is a little spooky at the moment due to lack of work. He is excellent in traffic but can be nervy with tractors but will go past with confidence from his rider. Snaffle mouthed for everything. He loads into a lorry fine but needs persuasion to go into a trailer, once in travels like an angel. I would prefer a competent rider for him to help him with his learning. Will live in or out. Stands for farrier and vet.

Would prefer him to stay at current home on private field in Belbroughton area but will consider a move to a yard once checked out.'

^^^^^ is what the proposed advert would say roughly wiht a contact but didint want to post it!!

with these pictures (sorry there so big)

Try your local pony club, sounds perfect for a confident young rider and they could take him on loan for 2-3 years until outgrown and you can then reconsider depending on how you have recovered. At least in pony club nearly everybody know each other so you can be relatively confident that your horse would receive good care and regular work

i had a look and its £11 to advertise on their actual site. but you could just put something like "would be good for pony club activities" in your ad (ok maybe not that - it just came off the top of my head!) and then get posting on the internet, tack shops, riding schools etc.
i dont know anything about your area but if there's any riding schools which are pony club centres then they might have a noticeboard you could put one up on (cheaper than the website!)

Blazey,
I agree with Moo-Moo, there are a lot of PClubbers who would love the opportunity of a loan pony for a while. Then you would have the best of both worlds, knowing he was out doing things and you would be able to have him back if and when you get better.
Good luck with your back.
