A small and inconsequential post but today I mastered sitting trot, no stirrups and NO bouncing on my VERY bouncy holsteiner. For an hour!

So I am

It is nice when you feel like you are getting somewhere.

What little things have you achieved lately that have made you smile?

awww thats fab! well done you!

I haven't achieved anything for ages

everytime I get somewhere with him he feels like taking 2 steps back again with his basic things!

Thats fab though - its great when you feel like you have achieved something after you have rode.

Well done. It's always the little things isn't it??

Getting Bailey back into the school for some games and bombproofing with various things (barrells etc) was such a small thing but it meant so much. After 4 months of hell with his eye ulcer and not doing much at all it was just amazing to get back on track - AND seeing him enjoy it and just do so well with everything. It did bring a little tear to my eye I have to admit.

I have a self imposed ban for no rising trot, all week.
Want to make bets as to whether I stick to it?

Think of the horses back - rather than your backside.........

I can sit to Thumper all day - take my stirrups away and I'm buggered!

Good point, but that's more of an incentive to do it properly. So long as I am not bouncing, he is not inhibited.

*whispers* if you can't do it without stirrups then you are gripping with your legs.

Remove your stabilisers, girl!

*whispers back* Do you really expect to admit to just how crap I am on a public forum????

Seriously though - well done. It's not at all as easy as some people think. A friend of mine had a very big moving horse that she found it nigh on impossible to sit to. I could never understand her problem unitl I sat on it. Wow, the power was unbelievable.

I remember (when living in Swansea & riding with Uni team) my instructor getting me to go round without my stirrups in front of the class. This was fine, it was the running commentary with it:

Instructor: Kirsty go round by yourself
Me: Ok *goes round*
IN: the reason Kirsty can do it without sliding off and bouncing is she sticks her arse out!!

VERY embarrassed. And funnily enough, haven't been able to trot without stirrups since!!

PMSL!

You are right, my horse has such a big bouncy stride. Took me a while to sit to his canter, let alone his trot, which seems to ping you all over the place!

Now, If I can stay on board when he throws himself over the jumps then I might just be ok...

Finally mastering getting my pony working into a correct outline!
smile.gif
It's a big achievement expecially as people have told us we would never be able to do it because of his conformation. We sure proved them wrong!

Well done you though

Well done you! I actually fell off my big lad trotting round a corner with no stirrups. Possibly the most embarrassing thing ever! No-one understands how hard it is to sit to a big bouncy big-striding horse until you have one.

Oh well done - it's a lovely feeling when things like that come together. I'm prob mad but i love sitting trot on big moving horses!

I had a bit of a confidence achievement today. I hacked my new lad for the first time and he was a star and i came back feeling really good! Especially as it was one of those days where you meet all sorts of scary things - we almost got ran over by a police car going very fast with siren blaring and lights going - fun!! Luckily we heard him coming and pulled over (it's a single track road so could have been nasty!).

well done. i can't do sitting trot and i avoid it like the plague....so well done you!

i'm happy because my baby, just backed, horse is now walking happily on the lunge with me on him. thats sad isn't it?! now just need to brave a trot (last time we tried that he panicked and decked me hence why i've been working on the walking and his confidence!)

I can beat you in the embarrassment stakes - I fell off in a lunge lesson, oops

I'm a slightly nervous rider so to actually ride out on my own for the first time was a really big step for me, and I did it only yesterday. Every thing was fine, sometimes I do worry just for the sake of it.

OOO well done! last weekend I took my horsey to two shows all by myself and hit snow when I got the the first one on Saturday and panicked as didnt know waht car or trailer would do. In Sunday we did SJ and he did a pretty shocking 2 ft 6, and I have now come the conclusion this height is next to useless with him, but did the best 2 ft 9 round in the whole world, sitting on his hocks, really pinging fences, so now I have got it right I am moving on to the bigger fences this weekend. just wanted to wait until we had really got the whole not rushing at jumps thing firmly planted in his brain
