My new pony, have had her since the end of April, has a lump across her nose. Yes I have only just noticed this as she has been very head shy and is only just trusting me enough to really start checking her out.

I have always seen that the fur has been rubbed off her nose where she obviously must of had her noseband too tight before. But she never let me near there. Now she lets me touch all over her face and brush and stroke her. Today I could clearly feel a large lump, she doesn't particularly like it being touched, but it feels hard and is where the fur is rubbed off. Also on the back of her jaw (the other side to the lump) the fur is also rubbed off, but it is more dry and scabby. I have never done the noseband up tightly due to her being so headshy, was worried she had suffered with some kind of pain. I am now applying sudocream to the scabby bits. What could the lump be on the front? She also has scabby bits in her ears that she is letting me treat now. Any ideas on these as well???

Thanks

My advice is to get the vet to check it - it's not possible to suggest what it could be on a forum, especially without pics.

It could be where a headcollar has dug in, or a muzzle, but honestly a vet needs to check it.

She has probably spent most of her time turned out in a badly fitting headcollar that has rubbed and caused both the bump and the rubs at the back, take care to keep it clean and the rub should go quickly, the bump may never go but possibly will reduce in size.

Agree my old cob boy had this the bump went eventually but the hair never grew back.
