Big mare's vertabre out of place also thinner bit recommendations?

Will take advice and see if my vet can come out on Monday morning. Could it be kissing spines?? or would symptoms be far worse? i hate not knowing.......:(

"Surely it must be her back though if shes uncomfortable with pressure applied to a certain area? "

Yes - she probably does have genuine back pain - and the muscles may be in spasm, tender and uncomfortable. If you want to do something nice for her, a hot water bottle. heat pad or simply a gentle rub and placing your hands over it will help.

But the cause of the soreness is probably somewhere else, and this is secondary. Your vet will be able to tell you.

After all she may just have rolled on a stone and bruised herself - my big lad did that and we couldn't touch that for a couple of days without him flinching.

Your contact problems all probably stem from that too - but be careful that you're not asking for a contact when she is not fit enough or flexible enough to give you one.

just out of interest - if i do call the vet to investigate will i be covered on my veterinary side of my horse insurance?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, provided it isn't related to an existing condition she has. Call the vet, they do all of the neccessary investigations and you claim on your insurance, paying the excess. Vet will fill in forms and send off to insurer. You must notify your insurer as soon as the vet has been though and ask for claim forms.

Don't panic until you have your horse looked at.

I have been known to sit up all night, literally, worrying about what might be wrong with my horse, what might happen if X is wrong, what else might happen if it's Y... And despite knowing that my vet has many many other clients, I tend to sit and stare at my phone all day once I've left him a v/mail until he calls back

To the OP, SD10 is right. You can (and I do!) worry yourself sick thinking about what it might be.

Hey, listen, I'm talking from experience here!:p I've been known to worry myself sick(literally) before now

Lukey's hair started falling out in clumps one spring and I thought that he was dying and I'd poisoned him

Ofcourse, neither was true, he'd simply got a case of seasonal allopecia(sp), it happens every time his coat changes.

Cobface, call your vet, pamper your girl and wait to see what your vet can tell you before you decide it's worst case scenario.
