'Big Name' in NH kills horse

There are so many of these trainers in the USA, we only get to hear or see a few of them in the UK.

I can't think of any I have come across who would tie up a young horse to make it "submit"

Yeah I just ended up skimming it too!! Awful, awful writing!!!

I'll be honest- it sounds like the writer has read the horse whisperer and decided to twist it.

It may be true, but I'm skeptical (mainly due to the writing style!!!)

the only she that was referred to (from what i read and could gather) was the owner who left her horse at the hands of the trainers.

something about it rings a bell in my head but i can't for the life of me think where from. i've read a few 'biographies' from NH people and i'm sure one of them went on to talk about a horse called matisse.
will try and have a think later and if i remember i'll post.

I think it's pretty clear.

"The day after I had witnessed “Big Name’s” methods, felt her wrath and fell into her trap while trying to please her, treating horses aggressively and without any sensitivity..."

Big Name seems to undoubtedly be a woman.

I don't want to underplay such a sad event, but I'm surprised that I haven't heard this story before. Word gets around quickly about incidents involving big name trainers, whether they be from the "NH" school or otherwise. I'm involved in the NH side of things and it's a small world where news like this travels fast.

I think I've been lucky in that I have never worked with a trainer who would even think of treating a horse in the way described here. Leaving it tied alone for 3 days... putting a rope on the leg of a horse that hadn't been properly prepared and then fighting it out... not good.

Awful writing, so melodramatic and SOOO American. However, the well-known NH trainer apart, there are odd comments that concern me:
1. the reference to "The surcingle was no big deal, although at first saddling there were some concerns, of course" . . . I've started a fair few youngsters and can say, with my hand on my heart, that I have NEVER had any "concerns" with first time saddling but then I;ve always done loads with them and it's just something else you do with them.
2. . . . and what is "We got to the point where Matisse was beginning to accept being led while carrying a human" all about?????? Again, backing them is just something else you do with them as a progression from all the other groundwork . . . hmm . . . .

mmmmmmm

I am not getting into any NH debate, nor and NH bashing, I have my own opinion.

what I cant understand is why this has not been splattered all over the news (when it happened) and an investigation undertaken, for this reason I take it with a pinch of salt

This story is by Rebecca Rhodes, a Parelli student since 1992. Now set up as an independent trainer, but has close links with Mark Rashid.

She sites Pat Parelli as one of her mentors, so whoever this 'Big Name ' is, its not Pat Parelli.

Why anyone would want to start a thread like this with such a dramatic headline is obviously trying to stir up trouble. Fortunately, most forum users have a bit more sense, and only one or two may have been taken in.

I felt a sharp, intense sense of foreboding as I opened the latest NH thread. I knew in the very depth of my being that someone or something would soon register in my line of vision, forcing it's ugly way into my mad staring eyes.
My heart sank as I came to the realisation that something may/may not have happened to someone with a big head who may/may not exist.
The voices in my head were whispering; "Yield to pressure, yield to pressure, open your wallet".
Slowly, tentatively I tried to think of a way of typing, 'what a load of b*ll*x' without being banned.
