Just had my first fall on the road. Fell off plenty of times, but always managed to bite the dust, not tarmac.
It hurts! A lot! I am bleeding through my joddies with a nice thigh graze, and my arm hurts: don't think its broken, but its friggin' painful to bend/lift. Hit hat on pavement, so need a new one but not concussed (touch wood!) but on my own as nobody else at home, so on here to vent!
I just can't believe what just happened. All well and on the last 50 yards of our hack, but came face to face with our feed merchant's van, complete with flapping plastic bags of haylage piled up on its back. Going the speed limit I think (40mph) maybe a bit less, but didn't slow down as soon as he saw us. I raised my hand indicating them to stop, but they didn't appear to even slow down. Normally traffic-proof Frankie saw it and spun, I ended up on the floor, tried to keep reins but couldn't hold him, and Frankie went the other way up the road
Idiot feed van driver called out of his window "Are you ok love?" To which I think I took about 1/6th of a second to contemplate if it was the stupidest thing I could ever hear in the circumstances, and I think I noticed how much my arm hurt and wasn't sure if I could get up, and replied "catch my horse!" - but in such a whisper that I don't think the even tarmac could have heard me!
So I got up and followed Frank, THANK GOD the driver coming the other way got the right idea about my hand signal and stopped, and even more thanks bless him followed my instructions and catght an unresisting Frankie.
Who - thank god some more - appears conpletely unhurt and unfazed.
To give him his due van driver and his mate did get out and try to help catch Frank, and says he slowed down when he saw my hand signal but I can't say I noticed them slowing down.
Of all things to have caused an accident, why does it have to be my feed merchant?!
I just wish I'd have pulled into a driveway (didn't because barking rottie other side of hedge) instead, and that the driver had recognised that my signal meant stop, and mostly that I'd have taken another road home.
Arm still hurts, but I have got full movement. Please say I don't have to go to A&E?!
Sweet tea to those who got this far!
