i have been offered some big round haylage bales,i have never used this before and am wondering what is the equivalent in small standard hay bales?
thanks
It does depend on the size of the big bales (they vary depending on the make and model of baler) but if you worked on a range of 8-10 you wouldnt be far off.
thank you, would you feed the same amount?
if i do get some i will mix with the old and change gradually.any tips? as i mentioned,i have never used it before.
would i still need my scoop of alfa A?
thanks
Haylage has a higher moisture content than hay, so the weight will not always equal the same quantity. Although I'd feed less haylage than I would hay, due tithe calorie content.
Depends on the bale size. I'd say two weeks or so, but go by the smell and look of the bale as you get further in. Keeping it covered can help prolong its life.
Thats the problem - in theory 2-3 days for quite wet haylage. In practice if it is pretty dry you might get away with 5+. But it will go off at some point, and be careful esp in warmer weather.
