Big shock this morning - these oldies are such a worry.

Went to deliver breakfasts this morning to those in the field and my aged TB was nowhere to be seen, very unusual. Anyway when I called him he called back and hobbled around the corner and OMG, he was covered head to toe in thick mud and shivering.

He had obviously been either stuck in a ditch or had lied down and couldn't get back up. So I took him up to the stable and put clean dry rugs on him and he ate breakfast and was tucking into a big haynet when I left but why ???

Why do these old ones do things that get them in that much trouble?

I'm sure it's to make us give them even more love than normal!!

Ours is always finding new ways to get extra TLC, some times he even goes lame on demand, one min unable to walk but as soon as he thinks your out of sight he gallops round like a 2 year old!!

Bloody oldies should know better!! Still love him tho.

Ours did a similar thing. Got to the stables one morning he was nowhere to be seen, and all the others horses were staring at the ditch in the hedgeline.

Silly horse had gone through the hedge, fallen on his side in the ditch and got stuck, although there was lots of evidence of him trying to get up. Cue vet visit and help from farmer and local gardeners to remove hedge and fence, and drag horse out with a tractor. Horse then stood up and apart from one small scratch was fine.

He did this when he was thirty, and lived 6 years longer! Hope your old boy is fine, the oldies always seem to be

Yes he seems fine but I find it such a worry, he is 24 this year and seems totally reliant on my ginger boy, I am wondering if he got into trouble cos ginger boy was in stable last night and old boy has never done this before.

Have to agree, we have a 28 year old who loves to lie in the sunshine (when there is any!) but gives the neighbours a heart attack as they always ring us to ask if she is dead as she hasn't moved for half an hour. It's always nice to hear her whinney when she hears the gate rattle!
