What an unusual and pretty mare. Congratulations to the breeder. :D

It's interesting that they have a total of five horses to play the role.

I wouldnt be able to contain my excitement if that was my horse...!! :o
and of course I would need to be on set to make sure s/he is ok... ;)

Wow, lucky lady! Hope she gets to meet Johnny Depp. :D

Can anyone please explain to me how you get a white TB like that lovely mare? I'm useless with colour genetics, but find it all fascinating :o

They could be dominant white, homozygous splash or maximally expressed sabino.

I think the thoroughbreds in the photo Enfy's posted are dominant white, but I'm blanking on their names to check.

They are dominant whites and crop out now and again from normally marked parents, there are no recent common ancestors to these crop outs who all go back to two foundation TB's but so do most of the normal coloured ones, so no clues there just I suspect the founder effect.

The crop outs from unrelated families that have been tested have been found to be different types of mutation so it might just be that TB's are prone to mutations on this gene.

Once they do crop out they are 50% colour producers which has led researchers to surmise that some of the DW crop outs are homozygous lethal at an early stage of development, though this has not been proven since they have not really been bred together, being very rare and from the same family usually.

How much would I love to have Johnny Depp riding me!!

There's a white TB in Australia who's called Opera House - she's a full sister to the champion racehorse called Might and Power and is by Zabeel. The Japanese love the white TB's and think that they are lucky. They have had a few successful white TB's racing there. There is a white TB in training in the UK. It's a National Hunt horse, I can't remember who trains it though.

Its called The White Admiral, and its trained by Nicky Henderson. Its injured at the moment though, and at home having his holiday.
