Well had entered dressage comp on sunday, and after judging and riding in little comp at friends livery yard on saturday i got home and atempted to get Bud grey/white again - hr and half later finished checked my phone and was message to say dressage cancelled!!! so decided i had not bathed him to go no where so eventually found sj was on at Markfield.
Next day cleaned all gear and after my LOVELY boss had been to template Bud for his NEW saddle (V V V excited) we set off, got there and still on BN jump off and i was 39th to go in Discovery....

Eventually my turn came, was really strong course as so many there over 50 in the class and Bud jumped lovely clear.

Ended up with 20 in jump off and i was 4th in decided nothing to loose and Bud seemed up for it so we did tight neat turns and galloped to last saw lovely xc stride!! he was a star great fast clear. still loads to go but turned out no one beat us so we won!!!!!
i was so chuffed, especially as there were loads of top riders/proffessionals and so many there, i am still quite high now!!! big grin on my face!

sadness - the amount of bad and i mean BAD riders i had to see and the amount of people using draw reins so tight i'm surprised horses could see where they are going - i actually had my head in my hands and close to tears at some of the riding and poor horses, there were some good riders some riding beautifuly pure joy to watch. i just don't understand pinning horses heads in jumping huge fences in collecting ring then taking draw reins off just before they go in and having no outline or no control all the way round the course.....

ok rant over

sorry but i needed to vent..... i was just so proud Budsie trotted round in lovely soft outline (which does make a change!!) and felt like saying hey look what you can do with HOURS of hard slog flatwork/dressage!!! and breathe..

Congratulations on your win- glad all the hard work getting your horse ready to comete wasn't wasted!!

I know exactly waht you mean about watching the other riders and thinking "what are you doing?!". Wish I had the confidence/knowledge to go up and give some of them a talking to. I was watching a Junior BSJA show at the weekend and saw some fab riding, but also some terrible riding.

One girl's pony refused at a spooky fence, so it received three MASSIVE slaps on the rump with her whip (cue an attempted bronc, no wonder!), one I could understand, but three is unecessary. The pony then refused a second time and they were eliminated, so she rode to the exit of the arena see-sawing on it's mouth and jabbing with her spurs! Made me so angry to see. And that's a kid doing it. I so so hope someone gave her a talking to. Really don't think there's any need for juniors to be riding in spurs.

Anyway, rant over, been annoyed all weekend about it! Congratulations again on your win!

Oh hunny thats brilliant, who wants to do dressage anyway lol NOT BUD!

Well done on the win....and in a strong field too

It's a shame about the standard of some of the riding....but it isn't just at BSJA shows that this happens...it goes on everywhere

For info, it is perfectly legal to use draw reins in the warm-up at a BSJA show...

thanks everyone i am so pleased with him , and yes it does make all the hard work worth it!!

i just wish people would try to get best from horses in nicer ways and in some cases learn how to ride before entering big classes!! or any classes!!

well to be honest i won't be going back there in a hurry, i have competed there from a very young age but not been for couple years and it wasn't that great. the surface is very tired and totally dead in warm up i think i only jumped about 4 times as Bud did not like it and also the size of warm up area is tiny and with all the plonkers swinging their horses heads from side to side with over tight draw reins on it wasn't a good experience, one horse got kicked and Marie Edgars horse cleared warm up by bronking and fly bucking around!

Jolly well done - eventers showing the SJers how it's done eh....

Can't see how the draw rein issue will change while you see so many top riders apparently unable to attend a prize giving without them on....

I remember seeing a rider at Olympia a couple of years ago, whose horse jumped with it's head permanently tucked in to the point where it's chin was touching it's chest.
It was a bit heartbreaking, the horse was so completely submissive, but I would expect it to have been in great discomfort.
