OK so it is very rare we hear anything positive about insurance companies so I would just thought I would post to give credit where credits due (an no I do not work for the insurance company!)

A quick introduction: Basically I took my Frenchie to a SJ competition in May and she did really well (came 4th and 6th with DCs) and seemed fine on the hack home. However she was a bit stiff and just not looking entirely comfortable over the next couple of days so we got the vet out. She was then referred to Rossdales for investigation. Cue lots of nerve blocks/ultra sounds/X-rays/bone scans through which French behaved impeccably (I watched most of the procedures and I was majorly impressed with how well she behaved, given that when I got her 2years ago I couldn't even lead her down from the field without her buggering off!). So anywho diagnosis came back with damage to suspensories and OA in her hocks-not the news I wanted, given that she is only 11 but heyhum, could have been worse I suppose. She then had a bilateral neurectomy and is currently sitting chilling in a field until I get back from uni at christmas and we can start treatment with corticosteroid injections and Tildren and hopefully start bringing her back into work.

So anyway onto my praise for PetPlan. To start with there was a problem with my claim form as the initial vet had not wanted to charge me for his initial visit (I love my vet :D ) as all he had done was watch her trot up and tell me she needed referring so there was no record of the initial visit. Cue the insurance company having to wait over a month (initial referring vet was on holiday and then it was bloodstock sales etc.) to get this information. They then had to wait for some other bits and pieces to come through (and were very patient and understanding when I explained why everything was taking soooo long to get to them!) and all the staff were really helpful answering my many many questions! (as were all the staff at Rossdales :) )
And now that all the infomation has arrived they have paid my claim within the week, and not only that they are treating my claim as two separate conditions so that I get an allowance of £5000 vet fees for both the OA and suspensories :D Cue a very happy me :D Given that they are separate conditions one would hope that they would treat them separately, but given the horror stories I've heard about some insurance companies and the fact that they could have whacked an exclusion on her hind legs after the treatment of just one condition I am very happy :D
So anyway, just a bit of thanks to PetPlan, and of course also Rossdales who are brill :D

Vx

:) Its so nice to hear a good story! Petplan were excellent with Mellys bone spavin claim, and paid directly to my vets so that I didnt have to shell out all that money up front :)
I hope that the jabs and Tildren work for Frenchie, unfortunately they didnt for Melly so she is retired, but she has many other problems too!!
Good luck!! x

I had to have my horse PTS a few months ago...he had colic, was in his 20's and the prognosis was not good. Initially I didn't think they would pay out for PTS because he was insured for colic surgery, but being a bad traveller and rubbish on box rest, I took the decision that it wasn't in his best interests.....at that point it was irrelevant to me whether they paid or not.

But they did, no fuss.

Big thumbs up from me.:D

Sounds like they've hired some new staff! Good to hear as i'm just submitting a claim for an Annular Ligament Injury which is currently having Shock Wave but may need surgery :(

Yes, I have to agree - they were brilliant with my claims and paid everything directly to the vet. The girls on the phone were very friendly and helpful and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Petplan also paid 100% of the MRI, which suprised a lot of people I spoke to.

As far as I'm concerned, they're brilliant!

pet plan have a big thumbs up from me too, I have claimed several times over the years with different horses and they've been brilliant!!

They paid out for my horses kissing spine surgery and sarcoid treatment for another. Absolutely no problems with them at all. I am in in the process of buying a little mare who is possibly/probably in foal and I will be using them to insure her.
I can also recommend them for the dog insurance as I am having a nightmare time with my rottie and they have been paying the vets within a fortnight of me submitting a claim.
Not the cheapest of insurers, but as they say, you get what you pay for

wow this is good to hear - my horse is insured with petplan and although it is much more expensive than some other companies its stories like this that make me happy i am with them - thank you for sharing!!! :D
