Went a bit mad yesterday at the meat man's place (think kid in a sweet shop - shortarse in a refrigerated room :p) and bought a bag of cow's tongues.

The problem - they are mahoosive! I fed one last night as the dog was overnighting in the van and it kept him busy but they are just too big - does anyone else feed them and how?
Was thinking it best to cut them up *bleugh* again, how? Knife? Jigsaw? Bear in mind quartering a chicken makes me gag :o

They are truly disgusting to look at and handle but I have six of the beggars now so I might as well use them....

Ewwww that is gross :D I have a really good serrated kitchen knife which I use to chop up heart/liver/carcasses, I havent found anything better as yet (the serrated edge makes all the difference) :)

And if the carcasses are frozen I use a chisel :p

BTW what is the white stuff around a heart? I assumed it was fat, but it was really solid! I did nearly gag when the butcher just gave me a whole one...

The fat you mention I spend ages cutting it off by hand then rendering it down to make tallow, which can be used for all sorts of things, leather conditioner, candles, soaps etc

Now that is dedication, I have to admit I would pay double for the leather conditioner from the tack shop before I would consider cutting off heart fat and melting it down... but then I can't even make decent gravy without instant granules so I think that excuses me on grounds of incapability :-)

Pic for Toffee - DO NOT SCROLL DOWN IF YOU ARE SQUEAMISH

My feet for scale, size 6/39, this is the tongue after defrosting, it is furled up so actually much bigger than it looks here
