My beloved gran died at the beginning of this year and has left me a thousand pounds and i want to buy a trailer with it. Its always been my dream as a nervous mum to get out and compete and now its possible, so to say i am excited is an understatement! Anyway horsey goes well in a ifor 505 but wouldnt want anything smaller - have a meaty shogun to tow it with. Now would love an equitrek but need something closer to budget - do you think its possible to get a safe 505 or same for around a grand?

thanks!

Certainly three 505's have sold very recently for under a grand on ebay. What condition they were in I wouldn't like to say. I think you'd need to inspect very carefully before bidding and also find out from your local dealer how much a service would be on one and add that in to your budget.

If you save up a bit more then yes but they might be the ones with the wooden floors in, you might be better being off just holding fire, saving up a bit more, because the bit extra will make a huge difference in the quality of trailer you can buy.

I am upgrading my Rice Beaufort to a small lorry. I will hope to get approx £1000 for my old trailer, there are plenty of perfectly sound trailers around for that price. Ifor Williams are not the only make out there.

There seems to be quite a few around Somerset at the mo advertised on trade-it.co.uk that are about £600 - £800. They all look in pretty good condition and some have had new floors etc. recently but people are upgrading, so I definitely think it's possible. Just make sure it won't fall apart one the deal is done lol

should be possible. there are quite a few horse owners who have had a trailer for years but havent used them much so they have old trailers in really good condition. they can be hard to find but they are out there.

I paid £600 for a rice beaufort in ace condition apart from somebody had replaced the floor with chipboard and it was on its way out.

Should cost me a couple of hundred to put a good floor and matting in (OH will do it)......nice big double trailer.....I got that off e-bay too so I think for a grand you should get an old but serviceable trailer...be wary of the floor tho...I knew the one on mine needed doing, but dont be caught out.

I have a Sinclair, which cost £800. They are light, tow well and horses travel well in them. I have had a couple of ponies that were difficult loaders which improved a lot after traveling in a Sinclair.

The newer ones have galvanised frames, all (except the really old ones) have ali sides so the only thing you have to keep an eye on is the floor.

They are super trailers, its a great shame that they don't make them anymore.

Think as you have got a meaty tow vehicle you would get better value with a Rice. I loved my one - nice and solid and stable. A Rice Beaufort has a narrower market than the IW's due to weight I suppose so you can get more for your money.

Thats a good way to sepnd your gift as you will get lots of fun out of being mobile and i bet your Gran would be very proud of you!
